I've been a sahm for 7 years. Dh travels for work, a lot of it is international and sometimes not predicable. he may be set to work in our town then come home tuesday at punch and say he has to go to Mexico/Alberta/Germany you get the picture. My job I had before ds was not a set schedule, 5 days a week never the same days off. One day I might have started at 6 a.m. and got out at 3, the next I might have worked 2 -11. We tried for a bit to find a sitter but it was too expensive. Anyway, both kids are in school now and I'm looking for something part time and their school district is hiring sub cafeteria workers. The pay isn't great and even though its subbing they are pretty understaffed so I could get full time hours if I wanted. I can work it around me going back to school. So extremely long backstory to ask, what do I put for my professional references? My last job none of the managers are still there. I have no idea if they transferred to other stores or quit/got fired. I worked there for 3 years. My job before that, the company went out of business. Thank you for any help!
Are you still friendly with any of your former coworkers? I would assume in a position like this anyone you worked with that could attest to the fact that you showed up when you were scheduled and did what you were supposed to would be sufficient and wouldn't have to be a supervisor
Have you volunteered at the school at all since your kids reached school age? I would think a classroom teacher/principal/school secretary/whoever coordinates volunteers would be an excellent reference in this case.
I was in a little bit of the same boat, the last 2 companies I worked for closed and I had no contact information at all for any of my supervisors. I used co-workers and it wasn't a problem at all.
thank you so much! I was thinking I could have just put the old managers name and if/when they called they would just get transferred to hr. It was Home Depot, lot of turnover and they liked to rotate their managers. I think there is one person I worked with that is still there. I do volunteer at the school. I'm there 3 mornings a week and will be there tomorrow for Santa Shop. Thank you!! I was thinking I haven't done this application thing in almost 11 years!
