They have fabulous customer service. I think their credit card is zero interest (seriously, I think it is). I don't get to our store often but I do believe they run sales here. Our store used to be a great source of formal wear and ran good sales on them. I was at the one here about a month ago and they'd reduced the amount of women's formal wear. They were having a sale and I could kick myself for not picking up a Kate Spade bag that was on sale. I'm not a handbag person but I really liked it and should have bought it.
I walked through one for the first time today and they had a live pianist playing Christmas songs. I thought that that was pretty cool. I did also see the signs for the no interest credit card. There were very few people in the store which was really appealing, considering the rest of the mall was packed.
If you can catch things marked down, it is usually high quality name-brands. And when they are more established their "shoe room" with markdowns is usually awesome.

This. They won't have like percent off sales like kohls or Macy's, but that actually appeals to me. It's a nicer store with brands that don't go on sale as often. You can snag some good deals on mark down days (Thursdays here, worth asking about there?). The live music is nice, it's very clean and organized, they are extremely generous with returns, and it is a 0% credit card.
Love Von Maur! Ditto the shoe room. Their sales are understated - usually just a couple of racks in each department that are marked down, but I've gotten some great prices on quality items.
Good service - I bought H some cologne there last year, and asked if they had a sample or two of some others he could try - they made me a bag of every type of cologne sample they had!

I adore Von Maur. Sometimes I actually think I like them better than Nordstrom. Maybe it's just because the people who work at our Nordstrom are assholes though. Like PPs said, there sales are understated, the shoe room is amazing, and I also find great deals on their website a lot.

I don't get to go there very often but I love that store. The thing I love most is that the sales aren't so in your face.....not huge signs, no coupons, not door busters. It's always clean and organized. The bathrooms are too. You can always find someone to help you. Also if I remember right they will hem jeans for you for free and mail them to your house.
I have found some really good deals there on good quality shoes, clothing and handbags.
Lurker here, but I used to work at Von Maur. They don't have sales that are only for a limited time or a percentage off, etc... What they do is mark things down, often significantly. So basically the only items that are ever on sale are the clearance items. But you can get some amazing deals!
Another thing, at our mall, it has the best bathroom for women including a nursing area with couches and a couple rocking chairs and a different room with two changing tables and a sink.
I'm another person who loves Von Maur. Everything is nicely laid out, it's never super busy, and the employees are very helpful. The live piano music is lovely!
If you're a bargain shopper, go straight to the clearance racks. There are usually a few in each section.
This isn't a store like Kohl's where every rack always has some kind of discount sign.
