No clickies because I'm looking for ideas. We're in the Pacific Northwest. No passports. We'll be getting rid of the kids for maybe 4 days. He wants to get away from it all and hopefully find sun for a few days. Doesn't want to do Hawaii for such a short period of time (and the girls would like to go to Hawaii, so maybe spring break?) He just got back from Arizona, where it rained the entire time he was there (Scottsdale.) We'll be going to San Diego in June.
He suggested San Fran, but isn't sure if he wants to go if the weather sucks. I'm thinking maybe Vegas (and we can see my mom too) and visit the Grand Canyon since he's never been and it's been 30+ years for me. Or staycation and just go to one of the local resorts on the peninsula/Sound or down to Oregon or something? No sun but at least Oregon Coast maybe and watch the waves roll in under the gray clouds.
And I have no other ideas beyond that. For a few days between Christmas and New Year's where would you go or WWYD?
Does he want sun specifically or warm and cozy? You can get pretty cozy doing spas and wineries in Napa/Sonoma. Since I can't drink, I think you should.
Deserts can be cold in the winter. I've been snowed on more times in Joshua Tree than the SF area (where you get plenty of cool damp in december but never snow).

How about Leavenworth or Canon Beach? Those are both places that DH and I want to visit, but haven't made it yet. No sun, obviously, but I've heard good things about both places.
The parks will be super chilly though. We went to the Grand Canyon last November and there was snow on the rim. It was cold at the rim of Bryce in August, although it was warm down in the canyon.
Like PP suggested, I'd do Puerto Rico or the USVI if you can. Maybe Key West. I'd only do it though if you can get an early flight on day one and a late flight on the last day, since the trip is short. As a runner up, I like your idea of Vegas and visiting the Grand Canyon.
