We got our new dog today. Poor baby is so so scared. We gave her time with us in our font yard and then tried the walk with out other dog. We could not get her to go on the walk and other other dog was not friendly to her It is crazy hot out so right now we have them separated in the house. One dog upstairs in our room and the new one downstairs to explore the house. DH and I are taking turns staying with each of them.
I am so worried. I know this is going to take time I just had this whole plan about how to go about this and well its not going as planned at all :-(
Sorry it hasn't gone smoothly so far. Hopefully, it will get better soon. It does take time. Remember to take it slow. It took my dogs about 2 weeks before they became BFFs.

Yes she did. She is so scared but so loving. We just were not able to do the introduction walk with her being so scared and not having much time on a leash. Right now we have the baby gate up between them so I hope that helps.
We only have 1 dog so I didn't have the issue of introducing her to another dog, but ours was timid/fearful (even of us) for the first few days we had her. Every single day there was a dramatic difference from the day before. (It only took ours about 4 days to come out of her shell.)

What you've described doesn't sound at all unusual for a first day. You can't really plan how this kind of thing will go, just try as many tactics as you need to until something works. But it will mostly just take time. Just keep them both happy and keep trying; they'll get there eventually.
ETA: FWIW, dual walks never, ever helped Dexter and Quincy. It just took time to get used to each other.

Thank you everyone for your support and help! Today was so much better. After a bit of time with the gate between them then some sniffs on the leash they started playing!! There were a few "disagreements" but they worked it and played the day away. At one point Lake (our new pup) was sleeping so I took Tyson out for fetch (He LOVES fetch and will seriously play for hours if you let him) and after a few minutes he wanted back inside to be with Lake!!! They are currently zonked out on our bed. They were cuddled but Tyson moved before I could get a photo.

I'm so happy to hear this! I will say one of the biggest perks I have found in just the past few days with both dogs is the play/sleep cycle. I would have to play fetch, run, chase my 1st dog for hours to wear her out - now it's like they take care of all of that themselves. It will keep getting better. Keep us posted!

That's good. Jackson HATED poe for the 1st 3-4 weeks. I'm talking full on snarls, teeth bearing, scruffing and the poor girl just walked away and looked sad. And he was good with dogs before so it was unexpected. After 2.5/3 weeks he stopped reacting and by 4 weeks they were romping like fools. Now they are 5 and 11 and have to play every single morning and every single night lol. It gets better. We got her from out of state and we weren't able to separate or do a slow introduction and it went fine. Sounds like things are looking up and I hope they start having some fun together
