I just saw the most beautiful picture of him holding a severely deformed man. It made me cry. I also read something (maybe here?) about him going out in the streets at night. I wonder if that's true.
He is definitely the best that has happened to the Catholic Church in years. Still, all I think about is "death to smoochie". But hopefully he wins in the end like smoochie.

Do you have a link to the picture? It sounds lovely.
you know, i have differences with the church on rather fundamental doctrinal issues--many of the issues this pope has chosen to de-emphasize--and on some theological issues. i don't think that they're reconcilable such that i will ever be a devout catholic again. i know other people have the same views as me/differing views than the church and remain active and involved members of the church (my mom is one of them), but that is not something i am comfortable doing at this juncture.
in any event, i was raised catholic and it's part of my makeup and i respect the church. and this pope fills me, a lapsed catholic, with joy. he is everything i would wish for in a spiritual and pastoral leader.

Oh man, this picture got me emotional.
I know he's the pope and it's "expected", but there are many people who would SAY they would do something like this, but not actually do it.

Dude. This guy is the reason I'm going back to church. And I'm gonna be really pissed if none of the ten students whose recommendations I wrote for study abroad brings me back some pope frank swag.

Lol. Love this.
I'm not Catholic, but I think of myself as religious.
There's so much negative news that happens today that shakes my faith, but I am really optimistic that churches will change.I know some people say what the new Pope is doing is not enough, but come on people, this is HUGE for the Catholic church.
And with the topic of churches changing, I've done a lot of volunteer work affiliated with the ELCA (Lutheran church) and a lot of them are very progressive (don't take the Bible literally, Gay pastors, women are equal, etc) and I love it. (ETA: I should add I'm not Lutheran, but there are a lot of Lutheran organizations I've worked with in the Chicago area).
