"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
How far in advance do you pack for a move? I start ASAP. I've moved a lot. It makes it easier to do a little at a time versus binge pack.
What do you pack first? Stuff from the walls.
What room do you dread packing the most? The bedroom. I can live with paper plates and takeout, but you have to wait to finish packing your bedroom until the morning of the actual move. It is a PITA.
What is the easiest thing to pack? Books/dvds.
What room do you view as the most work? The kitchen. Most little stuff and most breakable.
hahaha this is what I am afraid of. I am almost down to just the kitchen, but I am dreading it. I am still working on the bathroom, and the kitchen is next. I save it for last, because I am the most scared of the kitchen. I was hoping you would all say "oh the kitchen is my favorite, because it is the easiest!"

Packing the kitchen sucks! I would start 2-3 weeks in advance, but you can really knock it out quick. Clothes are the easiest, I just throw them in sheets, on the hangers, and tie the ends.
LMAO I move on Tuesday lol This Tuesday. I am such a slacker. It doesn't help that I am really anal, and have to have it all organized. My freaking clothes are in boxes according to type and color lol

Thanks for the tip about packing clothes. I hadn't heard that before! I was dreading packing up my closet.

How far in advance do you pack for a move? Depends. If the house is going on the market, I pack up stuff we don't need to have out. I start packing the rest once we have a final offer.
What do you pack first? Non-essentials... frames, decor, off season stuff, books and movies
What room do you dread packing the most? Kitchen. So much stuff. What is the easiest thing to pack? Closet. Transfer clothes on rod into hanging wardrobe box. Done.

How far in advance do you pack for a move? As soon as we give notice.
What do you pack first? Walls, guest room/guest bathroom stuff, anything off season.
What room do you dread packing the most? Whatever room happened to become our Monica's Closet. After that, the fridge/freezer.
What is the easiest thing to pack? Bathrooms, clothes.
What room do you view as the most work? The kitchen and the previously mentioned monicas closet room. The kitchen is just slow and boring, the junk room will usually make me cry. We have finally lived somewhere long enough to fully unpack and organize so I'm hoping we won't have that room to deal with for our next move...
This poll is brought to you by a procrastinating bqq. I am taking another break lol
Get moving girly! Anything you do now is one less thing that you may find yourself having an epic meltdown over on moving day.
FormerlyRR and TC I am trying. I am fading really fast though. I still have to go through the hall closet, finish the bathroom, pack the dishes and pots and pans, and other clothes in the laundry room. I have packed lots of random kitchen stuff like small appliances, baking dishes, mixing bowls, cooking utensils. I can't pack the dishes yet, because while I have the "dish pack box" They forgot to gie me the insert so I need to pick that up tomorrow. It is really overwhelming, and yes I only have one more day. I am going to try to stay up and do a bit more.

I think most people move without a dish insert. Pull out some old t-shirts, towels, papers, etc. and get wrapping I would put together your favorite drink, put on some good music or a TV show you like but won't get sucked into, and work in specific time spurts. "Pack everything I can in an hour, and then evaluate". It's sooooo easy to get stuck and overwhelmed if you look at it as a whole rather than attainable time chunks. You can do it!

Thanks! Yeah, I am about to run out of boxes, but I will take your advice on the dishes, and just pack them like that. I have been ready to go to bed for hours. Why can't my insomnia happen right now? lol No, when I actually need to stay up, I want to sleep. Oh well. I am taking your suggestion and I am going to not stop until 1:20, and then I will reassess.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
When: I start packing early. For our NYC / SF move, I started purging around February, packing in March. We moved in June. Each time we'd order groceries, I'd empty the boxes and pack in them. It looked like Fresh Direct had sponsored our move.
What first: (1) Whatever I won't need. Seasonal stuff for seasons that have past goes first. (2) Easy stuff I won't need soon. (like books)
Easiest: books and clothes. Books are heavy for actually carrying, but easy to stuff in boxes.
HArdest / Most dreaded: I don't know that I dread a specific room or consider one hardest. Hardest for me are fragile things that have unusual shapes or things you need up until the last minute. Those are a pain in the neck.
That strategy worked, because now I am out of boxes lol Now in the kitchen I am just down to a few odds and ends, everyday dishes, and everyday glasses. China is all packed. I have to finish up the bathroom, the laundry room, and do the hall closet. 1 full day left, so tomorrow, I have to get this all finished.

How far in advance do you pack for a move? I start immediately to keep my anxiety at bay
What do you pack first? Books and then reorganize the attic/storage space
What room do you dread packing the most? Kitchen. I never know what items to keep accessible or pack immediately.
What is the easiest thing to pack? Christmas items? since they are already in bins? Easiest everyday item is probably bedding. Just toss it in an extra large box and done.
What room do you view as the most work? Kitchen. We have a ton of kitchen crap and a lot of it is breakable and needs to be wrapped carefully.
