For me, it's mostly based on environmental issues (big soy farms are destroying the Amazon, among other places) and regardless of whether the soy I eat comes from there, I feel better not creating more demand for the product. I work in the field of environmental conservation and haves worked & lived in the Amazon, so it's an issue that is important to me.
There have also been concerns about soy acting as an estrogen mimic in the body, though the link with cancer is tenuous at best.
I avoid it because it's mostly in processed foods which I avoid. Also, I'm unsure about the estrogen mimicking effects and I think it's better just to avoid.
And I also have a thyroid condition and there is something about that and soy that's bad but I can't remember what. But since soy wasn't something I regularly ate on purpose, I didn't do a ton of research.
And the estrogen thing is kind of confused. It's not full of the same estrogen that humans have/produce like animals are pumped with. Also corn is pretty shitty in terms of agriculture and GMOs and people aren't avoiding that.

How do you prepare tofu for F? I want to make it for A to try but all the things I marinate it in have sugar or are spicy
