I get soy milk in my coffee drinks at Starbucks or other places, because I am lactose intolerant.
Other than that, I don't avoid it in trace amounts in everyday foods but I do try to avoid it otherwise.
I agree that the jury is out on whether it's really a healthy alternative. I didn't know it was so environmentally impactful, but I was aware of the estrogenic properties and so I limit it to the extent that I can and seems practical.

I do eat/use soy and soy based products. I have a dairy allergy and a lot of dairy free products are soy based. However, they have gotten better and there are some without soy now.
Unfortunately my daughter has to be the world's pickiest eater, the one food she is garunteed to eat is a soynut butter and jelly sandwich, she has one every day. I need to find an alternative, I feel so bad!

Yes.
I already have too many things to avoid. I did go without for a bit while nursing L, and it was hell.
I chose other alternatives when available (i.e. almond milk instead of soy milk) - but soy yogurt is just better than any of the alternative yogurts. So is the ice cream.
and now after reading all of the links and doing some research I am tossing the soynut butter. DAMN IT, it seems like there is always something that I am doing wrong.
You should have tossed that long ago for Sunbutter anyways. It's way more better.
We do not. DH does all our cooking and meal planning, and we eat a pretty strict paleo diet at home. I cheat a lot when I'm not at home, but I still avoid all things soy-related.
And the estrogen thing is kind of confused. It's not full of the same estrogen that humans have/produce like animals are pumped with. Also corn is pretty shitty in terms of agriculture and GMOs and people aren't avoiding that.
I buy Non GMO edamame and tofu. I have edamame on my salads a couple times a week. I have tofu or tofu based foods (not always non gmo)a couple times a week.
Its so damn hard to know whats ok to eat these days. No bread or pasta-Carbs and wheat are bad!! No fruit-Fruit sugar is bad for insulin regulation!! No non organic veggies-Good luck finding a variety! No meat-the animals feed from corn and crap. No chicken-they are full of hormones and steroids. No dairy-full of hormones and steroids and antibiotics as well!
We eat vegetarian at home. As organic and non processed as possible. I've heard organic labels are somewhat of a joke in the US. I'm sure I'm still poisoning my kids somehow.

Ds1 is allergic to eggs and soy lethicin is a common replacement for leavening so we consume a fair amount. Add in the dairy and gluten intolerance, more soy there. Mostly we strive for moderation.

We don't eat corn, either.
Yes, I think a lot of people think corn is no good as well.
