I haven't watched last night yet, but I really enjoyed this show. And I downloaded the book. I will say that last episode when Virginia was all aghast that Lillian would suggest that Bill Masters had a leg up because he was a male, made me want to scream. Would Virginia not recognize that back then, a male doctor clearly had advantages over a female doctor?
I'm guessing, with Masters showing up at Virginia's door step, it won't be long before Libby finds out about them.
And I really like the Scullys' story line (although I always think "where's Mulder?" when I hear their names). But I'm sad that the wife seems content to settle and stay in that marriage.

It is sad, but it makes sense for the time. It'd be difficult for her to start over, and she still loves him. But if she did end up leaving I'd love to see where that went.
I personally think Virginia is crazy for liking Masters. I don't find him attractive in any way. Ethan is too goody two shoes for her but I like him. I feel so bad for Libby. She could use an Ethan.
This would make for an amazing twist! I can't see Virginia staying with Ethan very long.
But I wonder if they're going to write him out of the show next season since he's looking at hospitals in California.

I think that's what will happen too. He'll take the job at UCLA and be gone.
Virginia not ending up with Ethan bothers me because of reading about their real life.
And reading about them in real life made me see Masters as creepy and Virginia in a completely different light. I read an interview where she says she never loved him but felt like she had to marry him. So much for being a strong independent woman.
What turned you off? I'm curious, I haven't read too much about them in real life.
The major thing was that tried to and claimed they did cure homosexuality in people by making them have hetero sex.
I think it's also important to consider the time in which they lived. Obviously that's a horrible thing for scientists to claim/work on but it's not too surprising to me given attitudes towards homosexuality at the time.
Have you already forgotten Ethan punched her in the face?
Fuck Ethan. He's terrible. For that AND for his unethical medical charades.
But, really, one punch should be enough for all of us to write him off, no?
THANK YOU.
Every time Virginia and Ethan are together, I'm just like, "PUNCHED YOU IN THE FACE AT A PARTY." That guy deserves every terrible thing.
I know. It bothers me that the audience is basically supposed to forget he clocked her and feel sorry for him that she doesn't love him as much as he loves her.
I do like the show a lot though. And I agree with a PP that Allison Janney is awesome in it. I hope they continue her storyline.

keep in mind that at the time homosexuality was a mental illness in the DSVM so they understandably if wrongly viewed it as no different then treating a mental illness.
