DS is 3y/4mos. He woke up yesterday morning and said he ear hurt. No real redness (maybe from sleeping on it?), no fever and no mention of it again. Until I tried to clean it with a Qtip. Then lots of crying and saying it hurt. He felt warm last night but still no elevated temp. When asked, said his ear still hurt a little.
Is there anything OTC I can do for him? Or should I call just to be sure? WWYD?

I'd take him in. My 3 yr, 2 month old is definitely with it enough to tell me when something is really hurting him. And since you can't see anything obvious, I'd take him in.
I'd maybe wait and see then. Is he congested at all?
Yes but he's always congested. He takes a children's Claritin every night and I use saline spray on him every morning which always produces dried clumps of mucus. We also use a humidifier at night.
Well actually, I bought my own otoscope so I don't have to take DD in just to check her ears. So that's what I recommend in the future. But for now, take him in.
