A cousin of mine had one and it was caught early. She had brain surgery and is doing fine now. This was about 10 years ago. She was in her 50's I believe when this happened. I hope everything turns out ok with your family member!

My dad was diagnosed with one about 30 years ago. It obviously has not presented a problem but when I was old enough to understand and my mom told me, she explained that it was sort of like a time bomb that could go off any time, or never. My dad has led a full active life and never stressed about it.
I, on the other hand, worry about it all the time. But there's nothing they can do to fix it. So we just continue to hope it never presents a problem. Sorry that you're dealing with it but it can be a relatively minor deal.

Depending on the size and location, there are a lot of options ranging from watch and wait, to drugs, to surgery. I've seen a lot of success with both the clipping and coiling surgeries. I recommend going to see a top neurologist/neurosurgeon, and getting a second opinion.
A family friend has one and is scheduled for surgery soon. How do they catch these? What makes someone suspect they have one and get it checked out? Aneurysms scare the fuck out of me.

How did they dx this? I thought this was an unknown until something happened. Good thought for everyone involved. It seems like if they found it that's a good sign that they can take care of it.

My MIL has had one for a long time - they did a CT every year to monitor the size and the first time they noticed it growing (one millimeter) they gave her the option of leaving it alone or having it coiled.
She had it coiled a few years ago and has been totally fine ever since.

My aunt had a brain aneurysm years ago. She had surgery and now, you would never know. She has no residual side effects. I hope your family member has the same experience. Hugs.
My MIL has one in her brain they found about three years ago. She had the coiling procedure done and is doing great. She has to go back for scans and updates every so often, but that's the extent of the monitoring.
MrsAxilla- They found my MIL's after she was in a car wreck. She had some head pain, so they did a scan, I don't know if it was a CT or MRI or what, but that's when they found it. The doctor couldn't tell her how long it had been there.
My nana had 2 in her brain and had surgery on both. She lost her sense of smell but other than that, she has had no other side effects. They are so prevelant in on my mom's side of the family that a local teaching hospital gave all of my aunts and uncles a brain scan if they wanted/were able just to do a study on our family. With my nana, I think she was having tests done for other things and they found one. They went into surgery and the first thing she said when she came to was "Thank God I don't have to go through that again." My mom had to tell her that they found another one on the other side of her brain so she had to go back under about a week later. The first one was the size of your pinky finger and the other one was only slightly smaller. This was in the early/mid 1990s.
My dad's mom died of a brain aneurysm when she was 32 in the mid 60s. All my dad can remember (he was 6) was that she had a terrible headache and went to the hospital. She passed there. Left my grandfather and 4 boys, all under 10.
The ones they catch are the "good ones". Modern Technology and modern medicine is making great strides every day. I hope your friend gets good news.

Sorry you're dealing with this. I have one in my chest and my dad has a few. Honestly, it is scary as hell, but ditto the pp that the ones they find are the "good ones". It is a good thing that she's being monitored/starting treatment. Fingers crossed for good news! ETA: I was diagnosed 3 years ago, and they're just monitoring it. I've had a baby and am medically okay to have another (though I won't). I run, but am not allowed to do heavy weightlifting. That is the only restriction placed on me. There's hope for things to be business as usual!
