You know how breasfeeding babies get that sugary, sweet breath? She has that going on today. I think the last time she really had it was when she was 8 weeks old.
She is not peeing a ton, but did suck down tons of gatorade today when we got back from the hospital, but she had not had tons to drink earlier, so I don't know.
That's like my favourite smell in the world! Sorry about the constipation. Anna has had issues since the age of three it sucks so much. In fact, she currently has awful belly pain which I suspect is another bout of constipation. Restoralax is a staple at our house.

Papie, I literally cried when her baby breath went away. Granted, I was still hormonal, but man I could just breath that scent in all day.
Yes. Her breath over the weekend was not good. But today it is sweet like sugar water.
Which I admit gives me pause. OK, is this something i should concerned about?
I would let the doctor know when they call you later.
OK. they did a urinalysis today to rule out a UTI and her Keto level was 80, but they were not too concerned because her pee was pretty concentrated at the time. I was going to make a run to CVS anyway, so I might pick up some Ketostix just to see where she is now that she has had a fair amount of fluids.

I think this is a good idea, and I agree to let her dr know about her breath when you talk with them.
I bought some stix and it came in as a small amount, but she still has that sugar water breath even after eating broth. So, if it is still happening in the morning, and even if it is not, i will tell her pedi.

I'm a lurker but I feel like I need to comment. I don't know the backstory but if you haven't done so already, I would recommend checking her blood sugar levels. My two year old presented the same symptoms (constipation, thirst, sweet breath) for about three weeks before a Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. He's doing fine now but we could have avoided two nights in the PICU had we known what to look for. If you have access to a blood glucose monitor check her now and if not, take her to the emergency room. We almost lost our baby because we believed the pediatrician when he said it was constipation.
Again, if you know it's not diabetes then please ignore this post!
A picture from this morning. Oscar tends to mainly cuddle with me,but when my baby doesn't feel good, he knows she needs him. (she was not still throwing up, bucket was just a precaution )

I don't have my monitor anymore (had GD with my last pregnancy). She was definitely pretty tired today, but then she has not really had a good meal in a couple of days, had not enough to drink, etc. Did your child have any other symptoms? C wakes up 1-3 times a night to pee, usually it is twice, but the odd night it might be more, might be less. She does drink a lot, most days and has a good appetite.
They did the x-ray today and there was definitely solid masses, poop, all up her intestines, so I do think there is constipation going on here, but the sweet breath does make me a bit uneasy.
cville, thanks for the well wishes. She has not had a fever since about 12 am last Thursday. But, the breath could still be nothing.

Everything you just wrote describes exactly how my son behaved in the weeks before his diagnosis. I'm not trying to scare you and there is a chance it's not diabetes. However, if it is, it's very serious. I would take her in now to get her blood checked. If it's not elevated then you can rest easy and focus on helping her get better
My concern is if you don't take her in then she will become very sick very quickly. The nurses may think you're nuts but as you know, it only takes a few seconds to find out if her blood glucose levels are elevated.
You can get sweet breath when your body breaks down ketones, which it does when it is malnourished. If she has a stomach virus, I would assume that is the reason and not panic tonight. I would follow up if it continued though.

We don't think it is a virus, just really bad constipation. But there were ketones in her urine today, which may not be surprising since her appetite is off given her not really pooping. I will definitely tell them tomorrow.
Yeah, they obviously saw the ketones in her urine today and didn't panic. It doesn't seem like a new development. Lol, I assumed it was a virus because of the couch and pink bowl.
She seems to be feeling better or at least is not having abdominal pain. She has definitely been more lethargic today, which is not like her, but given that she has not had solid food today, that is not surprising to me. She is sleeping.
It's so tough with kids because so many things can share symptoms of other things, but we do know she is pretty backed up. I saw the x-rays.

She had eaten some cheerios this morning and there just was not room for them. She keeps liquids down fine and even some solids last night. Just this morning, her body could not take more.
I'm sure it is nothing, but I would take her into the pedi and have them check her blood sugar. You can have peace of mind from a meter in the matter of seconds, and sleep a lot better for it. If some of us sound alarmist it's because T1 diabetes is completely manageable but needs immediate medical attention. And I'm sorry the symptoms are exactly as you've described. It is an autoimmmune disease and most often presents itself after some sort of sickness. Loss of appetite, abdominal cramping, weight loss, lethargy, thirst, frequent urination, ketones in urine and ketone odor on the breath. A lot of parents never think T1 because no one has T1 in their family. It doesn't have to be. Anyway, I hope she is feeling better soon, and if she is diabetic please reach out to me, I can help answer any questions you have, but most importantly understand that she is going to be absolutely fine! Look at Miss Mia in my sig, she is doing great and has had T1 most of her life. It does not define her.
