1Q84 - maybe some spoilers for first 1/3

Has anybody read 1Q84? I can't remember if I saw it recommended here, on that other board, or somewhere else. I got it on Kindle from my library and I have to say it's not really what I expected. I am only a little ways into "book 2" and am getting into it more, but I don't think the writing is very good. In fact, it reminds me a lot of The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo series in that I have to wonder if the original feels stilted or if it is more the translation. There are also some pretty frank descriptions about life elements that kind of jumped out at me. In any case, I think I will keep trying to plow through it at this point, but I am curious whether others have felt the same way and also if they were happy they finished.

I've read it. Overall, I enjoyed it but didn't love it.

I found it to be fairly repetitive to the point where I felt like I was being beaten over the head with certain phrases and themes. What annoyed me most is that I felt like the book was building up to a fantastic ending and then I was pretty disappointed when it wasn't all exciting.

I do think it's worth reading and the last few chapters were pretty interesting. I wasn't all that impressed with the ending though.

I have been reading it since January. It has taken me forever to get through it because I keep losing interest and starting other books. I'm about 60% done. Now having said that, when I can get into it, I like it fairly well.

Good to know I'm not the only one who is struggling a little with it. I definitely agree that it can be extremely repetitive.

I liked it, but didn't love it. I'm glad I finished it though. What a weird book.
