I am running it for the first time and was hoping some veterans might have advice for me (mostly, I am trying to sort through which additional activities are awesome and worth paying for and which are not worth it):
1. Pasta party. Is the food good? Would you do the pasta party instead of dinner at Pirates or another Disney (or nearby) restaurant?
2. ChEAR team. Is it worth it for my mom? Can you still see runners without being on the team?
3. Hotels. The Grand Californian, unfortunately, is already booked, as are the other two Disney hotels. I may be able to get a room by going through the Run Disney travel agent though. Is it worth it? Does it make it easier to get to Disney for the 5 am start time?
4. Park passes. We are getting a park hopper for Saturday just to have fun. Will we need tickets to get into the post-race expo? Can family members watch the race without tickets? Do the chEAR tickets allow access to the park to watch the race without park tickets?
5. Does the shuttle to the affiliated hotels work smoothly?

I can answer a couple of these since I ran the Sept half. There are hotels surrounding Disneyland. Staying at a "Disney" hotel isn't worth it to me. There are several others nearby, and they had shuttles running from the hotels for the race in Sept. I used the official travel agent to book our hotel room. The shuttles were running smoothly when I did my half.
I didn't do the pasta party last year for price alone. I would assume it tastes like normal spaghetti though and nothing fancy. You are probably better off just hanging in the park on Saturday and getting food in there. There are plenty of options to chose from.
2. ChEAR team. Is it worth it for my mom? Can you still see runners without being on the team? From what I recall there are a lot of places out side the park where you will run where she could set up camp. The Chear team from what I can remeber only was at the very beginning when you run down mainstreet and no where else, so she would only see you for a quick second anyways. If she stays outside the park and can navigate herself around she could probably find a few places to stop and see you.
3. Hotels. The Grand Californian, unfortunately, is already booked, as are the other two Disney hotels. I may be able to get a room by going through the Run Disney travel agent though. Is it worth it? Does it make it easier to get to Disney for the 5 am start time? I do Disney alot and never stay at an actual Disney hotel. Always stay at one of the outside hotels and shuttles are always running on time.
4. Park passes. We are getting a park hopper for Saturday just to have fun. Will we need tickets to get into the post-race expo? Can family members watch the race without tickets? Do the chEAR tickets allow access to the park to watch the race without park tickets? This im not sure since we just bought tickets anyways for three days when we went. sorry.
