I'm sorry. Big hugs. I've had several stretches where I had to take several months off of running and I definitely got super emotional about it. Can you find some other fun activity to do instead? How about some extreme sport where there is likely to be an adrenaline rush? I vote for mountain biking or skateboarding.
I'm going to talk to a former student today...her dad is an ortho who specializes in feet. Maybe he'll have ideas or a recommendation. I'll start there. I feel much better today about it - I am really just mourning the immediate things - the Disney races for sure, because they're so expensive, the getting back to long runs and feeling good. But I know I will find some answers. And if my May full (which I can drop to the half for) isn't my A race, then there will be other ones. I'm just so frustrated and the day yesterday didn't help.
But, last night at the program DD2 had a freaking SOLO, which we had no idea about. She said she wanted to surprise us. Awww! Proud mom moment. I could see my oldest filming her with a big grin on her face, and my heart about melted. Gave me a little perspective.
Of course, today I'm sick (like, sick), so that sucks.
I'm crossing my fingers for you for the May race, but if you need more time, there are always those September fulls you were looking at last year that can qualify you for Boston 2015. Full circle! lol

This is so cool! I'm liking this, not the sick part. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm really sorry. Hugs to you.
The only suggestion I have is to look for a certified pedorthist near you and get (properly) fitted for orthotics or insoles. This is one of the certifying bodies. Look for someone with the C.Ped designation.

HOLD ON JUST ONE MINUTE! Does this mean you're not coming in February?
I don't think you should mourn things just yet. Have these races passed you by and you sat on your couch crying about it? No. Do you still have realistic goals for 2014? Yes. Do you have to rethink how you plan on attacking your plan and achieving those goals? Absolutely. But you've got this, and you've got us to cheer you on in the meantime
And I'm about to PM you the rest of my anecdote so no one else has to be bored by it
I like this one, she's got spunk. You listen to her. AND come in Feb.

Oh, I'm fucking coming. I already got the ticket and my friend is counting on sharing the room. It just sucks to not be able to run my best at such a fun race, ya know?

Ok, phew. I know you're frustrated and annoyed. I hope something works out soon.

Oh I know that, believe me. But they are fun races anyway. Dress like a fairy. Take pictures with Mickey Mouse. Just have a great time.

Oh you should! Stop at every mile for the photo opportunities and just have a super fun time. You're not running for time anyway, why not take complete and total advantage?
Grrr...I think sister put like the max time down which means she'll be in the last corral. Gah, I'm going to sooooooo far behind you.

I just got a serious case of the giggles thinking of tara dressed as a fairy.

I found out about 8 - 12 months after I first had crazy achilles pain that it is related to my arthritis (that I didn't know I had prior to the pain). They only found it since I was sharing the podiatrist with my dad and he remembered the details from my dad. Confirmed with a wonky blood test.
if it makes you feel any better, my Garmin has been taking that long lately, also.
I had my massage therapist really work on my shin splint areas Thursday. I guess tomorrow we'll find out if it works. If not, just about my only option for Tink is to walk it. It's not what I want, but I also don't feel like making you guys drag my ass half the course.
But really, I just hope it gets better for you so that you can sit and wait for me at the finish line for over an hour.

Try compression sleeves. They help a lot for me. Recently, I was trying to run too much without them and my shin was aggravated a lot. Also, look up taping. Not kt tape. Hang in, I'll grab a link to the one my sports chiro recommended and I use.

I just saw this post. I'm so sorry your achilles is still hurting. I've been dealing with achilles pain since September, so I really sympathize. Mine has gotten a little better since I cut my mileage, but it still hurts sometimes. It's a tough injury to deal with. I wish I had better advice.
