We were selected to do an unmatched adoption homestudy by the county. We are excited but just noticed that we were assigned to work with a Christian Ministry based agency.
I don't want to be an ass and assume they won't love working with the Jewish lesbians but is it reasonable to assume this may be a bad match and ask for a change in agency?
I never want to knowingly place my family in a position where they might be judged or treated unfairly. What are the chances they won't have a problem with us?
can you do a little googling around to find out more about the agency? or maybe make a blind call to them to inquire about thier experience matching gay families?
I agree with ct. If you can't find the answer by googling, totally call anonymously and ask some questions and see what kind of vibe you get. You live in a pretty liberal state, so I wouldn't be shocked if they're more open to your Jewish lesbian selves than their name would suggest... but I totally understand being wary of that type of organization having any power over your lives.
Also, come tell us more about what this means for you!
I emailed the adoption supervisor and just said this is who we are, this is who they are. Is this a problem? She called me two minutes later apologizing and switched us to our old agency. She said they assign randomly and didn't think about specific situations.
I guess it would have been a problem,Lol!
Kershnic - I think we are inching toward a permanent #4 but am too afraid to hope and dream too much just yet. I am just acting as though we are doing a whole bunch of paperwork for no good reason :-)

Yay, glad you got it worked out.
And double yay for a possible permanent #4!! Is this an identified child or someone you haven't met yet?
It is intended for a "never met" but can be used for a "known" (looks at baby in lap and hopes with her whole heart)
Our county is suddenly approving unmatched study's to fast track kids without an adoptive resource, kids in group homes, relinquishments etc. They selected us and I ran with it, just in case. It couldn't hurt to have a completed home study lying around, right?

Never hurts to be ready. I hope it works out for you and quickly! With the right child too of course, whichever one that happens to be.
