When DS was your son's age, he went through 5-10 a day. I also was leaking like crazy still at that point and used them to catch the milk. Now, he uses 2-3 daily, but its more the drool now then the spit up.
An insane amount. Probably a dozen. DS has reflux though
This is us too. They're all over our house - I think I just spotted 3 on the couch with me now, not counting the one on my shoulder under a sleeping DS. We also only swap out when they seem gross.
Several - DD spits up a lot. I've actually discovered lately that receiving blankets (which we haven't used much as blankets) make good burp cloths when you fold them. I'll fold a blanket in quarters, then refold it as DD spits up on it so that the sticky parts face in.

Lots, but G had reflux and I can't stand the smell of old spit up so I changed every time. We CD and just used PFs- they are cheap and absorbent even if you don't CD.

I use these www.adenandanais.com/en-us/content/burpy%20bib.aspx because they can be a bib as well. It's draped like a little cape around DD when she's drooly and wearing a nice outfit if I've dressed her before I feed her. Then any mess is on her bib, not her, and we can go!
We use two a day, but I keep one in her room, one in her diaper bag, etc, so they aren't necessarily "used up" when I use them, if that makes sense. It's because I don't want to be without one just in case.
Honestly, the reason I go through them so frequently is because of her drool these days. I'm thinking she's pre-teething, or something, if that's a thing.
We go through 1-2 a day. I change after a really bug spit up. I have them all over though. On the couch where I tend to sit, on the rocking chair in the nursery, and in bed.
Hmmm, maybe I'm weird, but even though I have a super spitter I just use a couple of rags a day to wipe off her shirt, me and the floor . She doesn't spit much after feeding though, usually later when playing on her tummy
For us the spit up smelled like acidy vomit, I heard it coming up in her throat and being swallowed constantly and she'd choke in her sleep and wake screaming

Also dd1 spit up just as much but didn't have these extra symptoms
I have a bunch of them just laying around the house and just grab one when needed. Z doesn't normally spit up after he eats, but sometimes he dribbles.

Did it happen from birth or did it start a couple of weeks later?
1 or less. I keep one in the living room and one in her bedroom. Each one lasts a couple of days usually. But if she's wearing an outfit I like I have a bib on while she eats and for a few minutes after just in case.
I use the cloth diapers as burp cloths and they are so great.
