This year we will be celebrating Christmas here and I want to incorporate some new Christmas traditions. We'll be having some seafood at this years meal. I want to specifically do a Christmas pudding. I'm not going to do one from scratch. I'm totally cheating. The grocery stores have some delicious looking ones, Belgian Chocolate and Salted Caramel. I think I will get one of each.
So now what do I do? Top it with custard (also cheating here buying it in the store)? Buy some Brandy, light it on fire? If you do Christmas pudding what do you with it? How do you top it?
Traditionally, Christmas pudding is a fruit pudding. Like fruit cake but denser and boiled. It would then be doused in brandy, set on fire, served with brandy butter and/or cream.
I've never heard of a chocolate Christmas pudding... I wouldn't be setting that on fire with brandy!
Anyway, a better way (more effective and dramatic!) to set your Christmas pudding on fire is to make a little "well" on the upturned pudding and pour vodka in it and allow the vodka go down the sides. Vodka burns better than brandy! :-)
Btw, I hate Christmas pudding but like the sound of the chocolate version...

Right there with you. I hate traditional Christmas puddings, but chocolate sounds fabulous. I wouldn't necessarily set anything on fire but I would make a brandy cream to serve with it.
CakeLover You inspired me with thoughts of the chocolate Christmas pudding! I made us a small chocolate biscuit cake for our Christmas cake! I did it last night and going to ice it tonight... Mmmmmmm... (And it'll be white fondant icing, no marzipan!)

I know it's late, but my MIL did individual Christmas Puddings with brandy butter and whipped cream for Christmas dinner dessert. It was the first time I've had them. They were very nice, but I was wondering how bad it would be if I swiped some of the brandy butter for the next time I make shortcake biscuits.
A little late, but I love Christmas pudding. I never used to, but it seems I have acquired a taste for it. I'm too lazy to make it myself, though, so I just buy it from the supermarket and have it with store-bought brandy cream.
