well now that season 4 is truly over I'm ready to officially say that it was meh. I was hoping for something juicy to end with. Edith bringing the girl back is something at least but I am just not feeling it like I used to. Sybil and Matthew brought so much to the show and I feel like the new characters they've brought in just don't bring the same level of interest.
we are going to watch it on PBS again when it airs here in the U.S., maybe it will improve upon second viewing!
I just finished watching it. I liked Season 4, but I thought it was missing something. I don't like the storyline with Gregson missing in Germany. I think that Edith has had enough bad luck with men. I am glad that her daughter will be close by, but I see this getting out somehow. I loved the storyline in this episode with Prince of Wales and the banter between Isobel and the Dowager. I hope that the storyline with Charles Blake and Mary continues, because I really like him (from Foyle's War as Andrew Foyle).
Can someone explain the note of the Prince in detail? What did he write in there that they didn't want to get out? What was that sketchy loyal chap thing about at the ball? Who is that woman?
So the Prince of Wales is Edward VIII who eventually became king but abdicated to his brother so that he could marry Wallis Simpson (an American divorcee). But before he met her, he was also know to have affairs with married women. The woman in this episode of DA is Freda Dudley Ward (who is married) and the note was a love note from the Prince. Obviously if it go out that he was having an affair with a married woman, it would have been a huge scandal.

I just felt like this whole season didn't really follow through. Like what is going on with Thomas and the maid? What happened to Gregson? Even Edith's baby ended up being a non event (although that seems as though it will change in season 5). I was disappointed.
Agree it was a less than stellar season. I'm hoping JF is planning to do up the next and likely last big so was kind of filling in this season so he could save big stuff for season 5 (Edith baby reveal, Mary remarrying or not, etc) for the final season.
Speaking of the baby am I the only one who thinks Tom is going to be a key element in that storyline?
