We visited our family in a suburb of Chicago (something I have been putting off for as long as possible because of the snow and my assumed hatred/allergy for it). I have only been in the snow once prior to this a long time ago.
But I always bring my running shoes because there is always at least a gym, but my BIL in a marathon runner and so he took me running on the first day. It was 17 degrees. And you know what? It wasn't bad at all!! It was amazing! My nose ran a lot but other than that, things were comfortable. I thought for sure my fingers and toes would feel like they would fall off, but they did not!!
I also went sledding when it was only 5 degrees (and 2 degrees by the time we left) and then running again while it was ACTUALLY SNOWING. The last run got cold because I went by myself, got lost, fell, put a hole in my tights, got wet -- and then it got dark and windy and I took my glove off to call my husband and he did not answer his phone. And once my hand got exposed to the cold air, it was very cold. But I found my way back and it was still just so pretty and I am still putting it in the books as one of my favorite runs.
I can be a runner anywhere and that makes me feel very free. I know that sounds stupid, LOL. But I am adaptable!
Yay! Running in any weather is certainly freeing. I had a run in the snow/sleet a few weeks ago. It's actually a nice way to get out and look at the snow.
The only weather I won't run in is the cold rain like below 60. I usually won't run in any rain, but if necessary, I'll run in rain that's warmer.
Welcome to the dark side! I love cold weather running (with the proper clothes), and the snow is much prettier than later in the winter when it all turns dirty and slushy. Glad you had fun!
