I consider $35 to be money well spent. The most embarrassing moment of my adult life was when DH let our lawn grow to be knee high, and I came home to find our elderly neighbor mowing it on our behalf. Better to pay and avoid falls and neighborly compassion, in my opinion!

I actually want to be the one to mow the yard. I think I've let him cut it maybe 5 times in the last two years. In the summer I am out of work at noon so I come home, throw my iPod, swimsuit and shorts on and get cutting. We have about 1.5 acres and it takes me about 3 hours to get it done completely but I honestly enjoy it.
Thankfully our yard is flat so I don't have this problem.
How many months during the year do you actually need lawn care? We only need it for about 5 months around here, so it wouldn't always be a weekly expense. I think even if you just paid for every other week it would be worth it. Or you could pay for the service one week just to watch how they do it.
We have a very flat yard, so we mow it. Both DH and I do - depending on who is available. But if it was hilly or had some other issue that made it hard, I'd probably pay someone. The annoying "cubbies" and corners is annoying enough. I don't need to add anything else in!
Honestly, if my husband was ever unwilling or unable to do any of our lawn care or other outdoor maintenance I would pay someone. I have no desire to learn how to operate a lawn mower or do any other landscaping. It would not even be an option for me to do it. When my sons are old enough I am sure we will make that a chore for them. Lol.
Lol, I mow our lawn most of the time. It is about 1/4 of an acre, so it doesn't take more than an hour to do. It is nice to spend a little time outside in the sunshine. But if it was any bigger, I would definitely pay someone to do it.

I don't mow a lawn, never have never will. DH gets horrible allergies doing so, so we have agreed we won't live somewhere with a lawn we have to maintain until we're in a position to pay someone else to mow. Easy right now because we live in NYC, it will be hard when we move to the burbs this summer, but I get sneezy and wheezy when I'm home when it's getting done just from what comes in through the windows, so there's no way I could safely do it myself.

We pay someone $20/week to mow, edge and blow. But, he has to lift the mower over our small gate - it isn't wide enough to fit a mower. Worth it to me and DH.
I don't know that I'd pay someone that much to do it, though. Not with our budget at least. That's a lot of money if you mow your lawn once a week like most people.
I'd figure out a different method though since falling every time doesn't sound safe or very effective.
I have a better solution. If that part of the lawn is so steep that you can't mow it without falling/the mower rolling out of control, it shouldn't be grass-covered. It's not safe for you or whoever you hire to mow.
Plant a different ground cover that you don't have to mow: pachysandra, myrtle, ivy, whatever.

Can you plant some sort of ground cover plants so you don't have to mow it? (I'm thinking of doing that with our hilly front yard, but mostly because it's on a main road and I hate people seeing me mow it.)
I have never mowed a lawn in my life. Nor do I ever intend to.
This. My husband does this, and if he didn't I would definitely hire someone to do it for me. And we just have a normal flat, smallish lawn. If I had to deal with a hill or anything large I wouldn't think twice about hiring someone.

I don't. H does. If H didn't do it I'd seriously consider paying someone to do it, but probably just do it myself because I'm a cheap ass. We have about 1/3 of a flat acre.
Me and the SO both love to mow, we have a about an acre, sloped, and a rider so it's pretty simple though. I wouldn't want to mow anything too steep with a pusher or a rider, I'm always in awe when I see people push mowing the ditches on the sides of roads that's crazy steep. I'll echo the people before me and say maybe try side to side?

I still have the scars from having to use a push mower on our lawn during high school because my mom refused to buy a real mower because it was not environmentally friendly.
Of course, once i went to college and she couldnt make me do it anymore - she bought a lawn mower.
I will never, ever mow a lawn again for as long as i live.
