I'm thinking about investing in a few cashmere sweaters, will they be pieces I'll need to replace in a couple of years or do they last a long time? Can someone point me in the direction to a brand/place to buy pieces that will last?
I have some that I've had since 07/08. They're j.crew but I feel like they have changed their quality in the past few years. I also love Loro Piana cashmere. It's so lovely feeling!
ETA- Piano? Thanks auto-correct. Loro Piana cashmere.
A high quality cashmere will last a few years with proper storage. Inexpensive cashmere will not last more than a season or 2 at best, as the shorter, less expensive fibers break or roll. Brooks Brothers, Donna Karan, St John, and Neiman Marcus all have a very nice line of cashmere sweaters that wear very well, I am not sure what their selection looks like this last in the year. Before you buy too many make certain your skin tolerates cashmere. Wear a piece a least a full day to see if it bothers you. In the last few years I find that can only tolerate if blended with silk or cotton or if I wear something underneath. I do not know what happen but lately it causes my upper back and arms to itch!
