Ok, if you saw my other post about Cabo, that's out. We'll be staying in the US and now looking at Destin, FL.
Looking to stay at Baytowne Wharf. Never been. Can anyone tell me about the area and if you've stayed in Baytowne, which property would you recommend? TIA!
I have been there before. It was a couple years ago, but it was a good location with lots to do just by walking around. However, we live at the beach (were there for a conference) so we were more interested in other things to do. The tram service to the beach is kind of a pain when you have beach stuff. The beaches there are pretty, but the access to them can be irritating (many boardwalks/long distances/stairs). I am used to quick, more direct access. However, the restaurants and such were good.
Siesta key is gorgeous. We live just north of there.
We researched destin when we were looking at places for our destination wedding. We ended up doing siesta key fl instead and I HIGHLY recommend it. So beautiful and the beach was unlike anything I've seen before. The sand is like baby powder and the water is warm and clear.

I used to live in Panama City, so we used to periodically head out to Destin and hang out there for the day. We also spent a weekend at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort once, which was pretty fun. We rented bikes and biked along the beach paths, hung out at the beach, and went to Baytowne Wharf one night. There are some cute little stores and restaurants there. The Silver Sand outlets are pretty close too.

I usually hang out on GP and parenting, but I saw your post and thought I'd chime in.
My H's family vacations in Destin a couple times a year, so I've been there about 8 or 9 times. It's beautiful and a great place for a relaxing vacation. The beaches are -gorgeous- and this is coming from someone from Florida. As long as there hasn't been a recent storm, the water will be turqoise and the sand soft and white. I don't know a lot about Baytowne Wharf, but we've been over there a couple times and it seemed nice. We always stay on Holiday Isle, which is probably about 10 miles west of where you are looking. There are not really any mega-condos on Holiday Isle, so you get a lot of privacy on the beach.
Also, definitely check out the Donut Hole for breakfast while there. Amazing!
We have a house in Destin so we go 4 or 5 times a year. Baytown Wharf is nice, I can't speak to which property to stay in but I know everyone that stays there enjoys it. The beaches are gorgeous in that area. It is right near the Silver Sand Outlet, but there is also more shopping (non-outlet) down 98 at Destin Commons. You are near 30A as well with Seaside, Rosemary, Alys Beach, Watercolor.
