Awe thank you so much for thinking of me! But I think we're going in a different direction with the rug. I'm just not in love with the uniform colors in that rug and the other ones I was originally looking at. I took the time last weekend to photoshop up a bedroom mood board with our furniture, lighting, bedding, a guess on a wall color, and the various rugs we were looking at. I'm thinking since everything else in the room is very neutral that the rug should have a pop of color along with some of the artwork. This is my current front runner now (sorry it's going to be huge so you can see the detail):
It's a hand knotted 100% wool Persian rug from a local rug shop. Much higher quality than the ones I was looking at online. I'm waiting to hear back on the price but the range they gave me for rugs that size isn't that much more than the ones online and I know it will be something we'll have for forever. I haven't seen it in person yet but I'm hoping to in a couple weeks!
Do you think it will look good with cherry furniture and warm neutral colors? I LOVE the rug but I want to make sure I love it for this space and not just blindly loving it. I don't have my mood board jpeg saved online but here are some of the components of the bedroom:
Our four post solid cherry bed. The colors are little warm here but it's raw cherry with a light red stain. Note cherry darkens with age so this will get darker over time.
The dresser is from the same Amish hand-crafted store also in select cherry and the same stain. No mirror and in a lighter color but here's a pic:
The nightstands will be similar.
The duvet cover will be solid white. I just ordered these sheets that are white with tan printing:
I want to have some kind of matelasse quilt on the end of the bed like this:
I was thinking of the tan prairie color but maybe the light gray fog or graphite would work better with this rug. Not sure if those would go with the sheets. We'll have a couple shams in a patterned fabric.
As far as the rest of the room we're having natural hickory flooring,
cherry trim, this light,
this chair,
and some of the artwork being sepia toned vintage photography.
The window treatments I was thinking of something similar to the wall color...which I think will be some type of ivory. The curtain rod would be iron to match the light fixture and the hardware I bought for the dresser and nightstands. Sort of like this:
And then we will probably have some slouched roman shades behind the curtains since my husband needs to sleep during the day. They would be a slightly darker color than the curtains and maybe something with a pattern or sheen. This is the style:
(This one showing a mix of white and ivory colors with dark curtain rods.)
I don't know maybe I'm just scared to commit to a color on such a big bold part of the room. I'm trying to keep most of the expensive/big pieces neutral so they would work with any decor and the cherry furniture which can be tricky to pair colors with. I was thinking the shams, accent pillow, quilt, some of the artwork, and rug would be where I would add color. I love the color blue but I don't want it in the bedding or on the walls for some reason. So if I went with the blue rug could I just pull out some of the warm color in it for accents and not use blue anywhere else in the room or will that look too random? Maybe I can find some artwork that has a little blue color.
I'm not really qualified in any way to decorate. I throw my pictures on pinterest to decide what to buy and cross my fingers. I've been trying to go about it the same way - add the color in the stuff that's easier/cheaper to change. I think you'll need blue somewhere else in the room, but it doesn't have to be major. Maybe a table lamp or some sort of surface clutter item?
How much natural sunlight does the room get? I think the direction your going is great for a bright/airy feel.
Are you going to go with any big euro pillows for the bed? That could be a good place for a splash of light color. Also, I think the cherry headboard is the thing that's making me most uncertain. That color scheme seems to like darker woods, so if you have big pillows that could help de-cherry the look a bit.
LOL I'm not either that's why I'm always on here writing long posts with lots of questions. I'm much more comfortable with the renovation/technical side of things.
Hmm the lamp is a good idea. We have two touch lamps on our nightstands which I love the shape and functionality of (touch lamps work best since DH & I get in and out of bed while the other is sleeping) but they are a chrome color so I was hoping I could spray paint if the touch lamp function will still work...I'm not sure it will though. As far as "surface clutter" (LOL love that term) we'll only have the dresser to put decor items on but I could totally do that. Above the dresser will be one big piece of artwork that I could try to incorporate the blue as well. The vintage photos are on the gallery wall with our wall mounted TV and then there are two other pieces of artwork (or maybe more) that I'll need for the other wall.
The room gets a lot of light midday-sunset. There is a casement window on either side of the bed that face southwest. There are two more windows in the master bathroom just off the bedroom as well that let it a lot of light as well. Oh and I forgot to mention I want to have a round convex mirror over the headboard so that will bounce around light as well.
Yes the shams are going to be two big euro shams. Then there will be the two standard pillows in the patterned sheets and a small accent pillow.
I have better pictures of the bed and dresser (we got it and it's sitting under blankets right now until we can use it) at home. I'll have to save my mood board online and post it here later this week so you can see the true colors of the cherry.
