She sleeps in her crate at night and often during the day if she wants to get away.
We have left her out before, but sometimes she will pee on the rug or whimper, whine, bark, scratch at the door (she has ruined a carpet once from scratching).
For some reason, she just really has freaked out at this move. We have tried putting a blanket over the cage, giving her frozen yogurt treats, but it isn't helping.
Someone else suggested a DAP collar, but it isn't something I can get here in a decent amount of time (at least 3 weeks if not more, and there are no guarantees that it will actually get here).
We are going to buy a baby gate over the weekend, so we can close her into a room to see if that helps.
hmmm, well I was going to ask if the crate was open and accessible at all times and it looks like it is so that's what my advice was going to be.
You could try shorter periods of time, like crate her when you go to the store for an hour and then see how well she does with that and then extend the time.
I've locked my dog in the bathroom before b/c he didn't like the crate at the time. that worked pretty well. But I don't know that would work for your dog at all.
Hmm, have you asked a vet about anxiety in dogs?
I think this is something we are going to have to do.
She's always had separation issues, but for some reason, this move has really, really upset her. The odd part is that the other two dogs are completely unfazed (unphased, LOL) by it.
My husband has managed a lot of separation anxiety with clicker training. You can probably find tutorials on YouTube. He's not home or I would ask him for a recommendation.
