I have officially decided to give it a try. Help. Anyone else planning on training for this insanity? Are you just doing your regular workouts or adding in something extra to prepare? Want to talk about it in the run-up to the events being released like all the cool runners who always get to talk about their race prep?
I am also really sad about Regionals. They're in Santiago this year, and if you go as a team you don't have to qualify, you just automatically get to go. I would LOVE to do this. My box is going to organize additional training and make teams, and the whole process just sounds really fun and like a great experience. But I'm going to be in the US, and there's no way around that without really upsetting one of my best friends (I have a wedding the weekend before, then a wedding 2 weeks after, and this friend's bachelorette party is the same weekend as regionals, so I can't even come back for just the weekend). I know I'm missing it for a good reason, but I want to do all of the fun things instead of missing out on this opportunity
I've competed in the last two Opens. It's a lot of fun and really, anyone who has been doing CF for awhile can do it. Unless you're trying to get to regionals, it doesn't matter how you do. Our gym does the workout every Friday night and then we all drink afterwards lol. It's a good time!
In the past, I have not done any special training. I just show up and do my best
I am unsure whether I'll compete this year. I plan to have a breast reduction in the next few months and depending on the surgeon's schedule it might be during the Open. We'll see.

I saw your other post about the reduction, wambam - I hope you can get it all scheduled for exactly when you want! I probably wouldn't do extra training by myself, since it's not like that's all that will stand in the way of me and qualifying for regionals, but because regionals are in Santiago our coach wants the people who are going to go in teams to really commit and do their best. The people who want to do it have to do the open as well, and we'll have extra training, so I'm going to join in on that even though I won't be here for regionals.

I have my consult on Thursday morning, so hopefully I'll find out about the timing soon. They'll have to see what my insurance is going to pay for and then we'll schedule. Honestly, I know this isn't "my year" - I've got another year or two before I'll be good enough to compete with my gym's teach at regionals. So if I don't get to do the open, I won't be heartbroken.
I started CF a year ago and plan on doing the open this year. I did it last year with my gym but not "officially" signed up; I'm looking forward to it this year.
I scaled some stuff last year and still had a blast; it's fun to talk about the open workouts when so many other people are doing the same workout and suffering through a snatch ladder or something equally tortuous.
I've only been doing CF for 6 months and although I love it I am not sure competing is for me. I am pretty slow. I was looking at one of the local comps and I would qualify for intermediate but I'm still a little iffy on it since I feel so slow.
