I took over this thread from @vtcupcake when she finished her marathon, and someone is going to have to pick it up after next week if everyone still wants it, because I am 2 WEEKS OUT! I love running and I love training, but god it's going to be nice to have a break. I'm looking forward to running because I want to, not because I have to.

How cold is it right now where you are? Those of you who are relegated to the treadmill and still getting the mileage done, I am impressed. I may have to do it next year, but right now I can't imagine not being able to run outside for days or weeks on end.

How cold is it right now where you are? 32 and windy now. Tomorrow will be in the single digits (negative with the wind chill), so I have to do 10 on the TM. Hoping to be back outside for my 15 on Th, but it depends on wind and ice.
Is there anything you're particularly looking forward to once you finish this training cycle? Actual Marathon Monday!!! I can't even think past that b/c it is going to be such a memorable, kick ass day.
I can take it over for a week, but perhaps someone who will be hanging with the marathon a bit longer should do it.

Any training issues that you want to pick everyone's brain about this week? Nope, I'm good. I had a pretty decent final week.
My main focus now is taper & weather. I'm afraid it's going to be warm. I'm already rethinking my race day outfit. I originally planned on a tank w/a built in bra, but after my run this weekend (50s to start, high of 72) where I ended in a sports bra, I think I might layer w/tank & sports bra so I can strip down as needed. lol These are the things that will consume my life for the next 3 weeks.

It should get down to the upper teens-low 20s tonight. I'm in FL, people. This is cold, especially since it was 72 this weekend.

How cold is it right now where you are? It's 35 right now. It was 37 this morning. It's fucking freezing for Houston, and it's supposed to be colder tonight. And the in the 70s again on Friday, WTF.
Is there anything you're particularly looking forward to once you finish this training cycle? Like I said, running because I want to. I actually have another half 3 weeks after the marathon, so I think I'm going to go for another PR there (sort of depending on weather). And then I'm going to take a whole week off. I'm also hoping to smash my current 5k PR, and also run a 10k, because I've actually never run a 10k and I'm pretty sure I could easily go sub-50:00. And I want to get back in the gym!

Any training issues that you want to pick everyone's brain about this week? I had a crappy crappy 18 miler this week. Every step felt hard. Getting out the door felt hard. The last mile or two was brutal. So now I'm just trying to recover from it mentally. Not sure if it was crappy because I pushed the pace too much (same as my other long runs), or haven't trained enough (missed some runs with my ankle, travels, etc), or just because it came the day after a two day road trip from Denver to Austin, little sleep, etc. But it is messing with me, for sure!
How cold is it right now where you are? It's in the 20s and super windy, which is frigid for Austin. Trying to motivate to go out and get my 5 in today, but the wind and my cold/allergies are not making it sound like much fun.

It's my second time (second marathon, second time running Austin)--first was last year. The hills are tough, I won't lie. But for better and for worse, training here means running hills, so at least that helps prepare you.
When I moved from Houston and started running in Austin, I thought the hills were going to kill me! But I've grown to love them. Usually.
I'm back! I'm starting week 1 of training with a rest day, lol.

Not really. My left knee and top of my left foot starting hurting after my race last week, but those are injury hot spots I've dealt with for years. The remedy is time off from running and PT exercises to strengthen my glutes and core, which I have been working on. Lots of quality time with the elliptical and spin bike since then too I definitely need new shoes as well. Mine are shot and not supportive anymore.

Not having the pressure of a big race on the horizon. I want to go back to doing short races on a whim.

Yeah, I've come to terms with it. Especially since we want to live on the west side of town. Holy hills! I'm not sure if I'll want to tackle a full marathon on the hills in the first year of moving. I'll just see how it goes, I guess.

Welcome back! For me it was mileage. I definitely bumped up my mileage. We'll ignore my first race since I basically only did long runs, and even then, I only did one 18 miler. lol! From 2 (this was basically a beginners plan) to 3 where I actually followed schedules, I think I went from low 40s peak week, to 50. I also spent more time in the upper mileage runs. More 16s, 18s and 20s.

It's freakin' freezing here in the ATL. I have had to do some medium runs (7 and 8 milers) on the mill. It has actually been easier than I thought. Friday I have an 18 miler (my longest run ever) and the temps should be in the 40's. Thank goodness!

In Atlanta, it was in the single digits yesterday morning and the wind chill made it -10. I have had 2 runs that would normally have been done outside, that I had to run inside. I did 14 miles last Saturday and the high during my run was 30 degrees and windy. It wasn't horrible but I am looking at temps in the 40's for this week's long run.

The marathon! It's my first and I know I am going to be sooooo nervous. I am planning 3 20 milers in my plan so I am hoping that will help calm my nerves. 2 weeks after the marathon is my 35th birthday and my grandmother's 80th birthday. I am planning a big party for her (with help of course). 9 days after the marathon my son turns 3. March will be a busy month for me.

I was considering taking my plan I used last year and doctoring it bit, to add a few longer runs. The plan was to bump my mileage up a bit but it may be hard to do right now.
Unfortunately, I'll be trying to balance marathon training and having to take doctor ordered fertility treatment breaks all at the same time, so I feel like I definitely need to move some longer runs around so I don't miss any big ones. I'm not holding my breathe and expecting anything big from this training, except still being able to get myself ready for 26 miles despite constant week long breaks.
Its sounds complicated, but I feel whole having something to push myself towards running-wise.

I think it's important to do what you can manage. You have to find a balance that works for you. I also think you'll see a difference just in the fact that it's your second. There are so many things that go into your first marathon, that I think you're able to handle better the second time around. You'll do great!
