I have no clue what happened to my calf muscle but it's been quite sore for at least ten days now. Usually muscle strains from overuse resolve by now. This seems to be improving but at a very slow pace.
Any experience to share? I won't be running to the doctor for this...mostly because I can't run at the moment.
I had a badly strained calf back in June. No matter how much rest, icing and stretching I did, it didn't get any better. I was talking to a PT friend of mine, and she suggested I try PT. I talked with my doctor, who wrote me a script. I started PT at the end of June, finished just before Labor Day. I learned that my hip muscles were weaker on that side, which caused everything in my leg to go out of alignment, which is probably what caused the strain. In addition to strenghthening my calf, he also worked my hips and glutes. In addition, he did trigger point therapy (wanted to cry during, but felt like a new woman once he was done!) in addition to traditional massage.
I still have issues with my calves, but that's probably because I've been bad lately about doing my exercises. I do stretch a lot more before my runs now, which has really helped. Hope yours resolves quickly!
