but I'm scared to death! I found a CrossFit gym and they have a Beginner's program - meet 3 times a week for 4 weeks and get an introduction to everything CrossFit:) It's not too expensive - $175 for the first month
I'm nervous that I will be super sore and my running will suffer. I'm nervous about injury, I'm basically a ball of nerves and feel like I may pee myself a little just thinking of doing this.
Help me tone down my fears, please:( I know I look better when I lift and run and DH may be talked into doing this with me too.

I would not be too nervous! They key is not get too sucked into the competition part that you stop listening to your body and get hurt. At first I was super competitive and was not listening to my knee (I have a botched ACL replacement) and hurt it. Now I listen and scale if I need too and I actually love it even more.

LOL! I will never understand statements like the bolded. My gym is brand new, and is $20 a month!
That aside, I think it's normal to be nervous, but what do you have to lose? Try it out for a month & see what you think. My guess is that at first, you will be sore, and your running might suffer. I would think it will get better as you adjust.

I was very intimidated at first, and now I love it.
You will be super sore, probably. The first week was hell, and the second week was only marginally less hell. But now that I'm used to it, I am not usually any more sore from CF than I get from playing soccer or going for a longer run.
I wasn't a big runner before - I've done a couple 10ks and a half but am not into regular running - but my running has improved. My 10k time went down, and overall my fitness and endurance are just better which translates to running too.
There's no reason you should get injured unless you do something stupid, just like any other sports activity. You are enough of an athlete to know when something that hurts needs to be pushed through vs. needs to be rested, so listen to that. Have fun! When do you start?
You will totally be fine. The introduction class will be filled with beginners - you're in this together! Let me know if you have questions. I'm excited for you!
If it makes you feel better, Crossfit made me a better runner. Even though I no longer belong to a box, my running still is so much better than it was pre-CF. I really learned how to push myself to run faster, and as a result my average 5K time went from 29 minutes to 24 minutes. I think it's just because I learned what it felt like to be TRULY exhausted after a tough WOD, LOL.
Oh, and you will love it. Don't be nervous. At least in my experience, members of boxes have a wide range of ability levels, and you will be just fine. Good luck and have fun!
I also am taking it under advisement. there is a crossfit gym less than two blocks from my house. TWO. but I don't know if I can justify the cost. .. . especially since I'm going to need to keep paying for a gym membership because I need access to a TM>
Thanks for all the positive input!! I think I will try it out - the next class starts February 3rd.
DH is the one who mentioned the cost - I try not to evaluate my athletic stuff because I'm paying for good things for my body but DH has different view on this:)

Yes, the cost can be hard to swallow. I signed up for CF while we were engaged prior to joining our finances, so that's the only way I got away with it initially! By the time he caught wind of how much I paid per month, he didn't have the heart to discuss it further because he knew how much I loved it!
I loved Crossfit Fundamentals (so much that I did 2 sessions at my local box). I didn't remain a member, but I learned so much and I use what I learned a lot in my workouts now. Mainly, the importance of crosstraining and maintaining functional fitness and a strong core. I am just getting back into running again, but I feel stronger than when I solely ran as my form of exercise.
At least at the one I went to, most people were runners, triathletes, etc. and they had several group workouts around events, so at worst you'll get some new running buddies. Have fun!
The cost is what initially scared me away from CF but I had stopped going to the gym and was doing my usual circle of fitness/laziness. I needed something that would push me and that I enjoyed. I tried CF ($100 for the basics course) and ended up really enjoying it. If you lift already you may not be that sore. If you don't lift at all or do many squats (lots of squats) then you will be extremely sore the first week. Everyone at my box is of varying fitness levels. I enjoy the atmosphere and the fact that people push you through a workout when it gets tough.

Ditto all of this. After starting CF, I cut 25 minutes off of my marathon time. TWENTY FIVE MINUTES! You will love it.
you don't need crossfit to do this. I took 26 minutes off my marathon time from 1 to 2 and 20 from 2 to 3 without doing any crossfit whatsoever.

please do not confuse this with crossfit hate.
I have continued to take time off of my races times without any strength training or lifting.
Haha. I was going to say the same thing. 25 min, 17 min, and 7 min (this one on complete & total joke training), all without crossfit. It's simply the beauty of the distance.
With that said, I can certainly see how the strength that you build, could help with running.
ETA: Actually, my first improvement was 45 min, but I feel like that unfairly skews the results. I did not have that huge of an improvement with my fitness, I was just that unprepared/zero trained.

I guess it just depends. My first two fulls were within 5 minutes of each other and then my 3rd was such a huge improvement. I think any kind of strength would help, but cf is fun and I get excited about it (typical CF "cult" mentality).
I really hope you love it enfuego!
Oh, absolutely. I think it's something both my DH & I would possibly enjoy, but I just can't stomach the cost, especially when I want to keep yoga & the gym.

Oh yeah, I guess I should clarify that in my case I say it was CF that made me run faster because I wasn't running regularly at all and hadn't run more than a couple miles in months. I'm definitely not trying to say that CF is the only or best way to improve running times, just that I don't think enfuego23 should be worried about it hurting her running.
