2 weeks out from race day, so I ran my Yassos. Now I don't think they are a perfect predictor by any means. In my experience, they predict roughly 5 min too fast. That was for marathons that I crashed on, so who knows. I wish I had run them before my really strong Surf City race.
Anyway, since I think his predictions are off, I kept my recovery 30-40 sec less than he says, and I averaged 3:25. 1 & 2 were way too fast. (3:21 & 3:20), so I reined it in & 3-9 were all 3:26 & 3:27. Final 800 was a 3:24.
I am under no delusion that I will run sub 3:30, but I don't feel as nuts for hoping that 3:34 just might be possible.

I am feeling a lot better actually, thanks for asking! Still congested but not nearly as fatigued so I should be able to run this weekend and get back on track next week. I'm mildly concerned that I haven't done any real speed work in 2 weeks now but it shouldn't really be a big deal. I think.

Thanks! I have a sneaking suspicion that it's going to be a bigger difference the faster I get. That's why I at least attempted to make them more difficult. Like, I've figured out how to run 800s strongly, but it doesn't equal that strong of a marathon. The last time I ran a full set of 10 was three marathons ago. Yassos were 3:58, & I ran a 4:03. I think it will be even further spaced this time.
I really think it just depends on the individual runner's strengths. I know people who nail it every single time with the predictor, and others who are off by 10+ min. My other race times seem to be a better predictor for me.

I didn't this time. I had once in the past. I was building up for them for Chicago (just looked back, I only got to 6x800s at a 3:30 avg, so yay, at least I know I'm running faster. Lol) With that plan, I did them every 3 weeks, & the 10 should have been 2 weeks out from the race. I had 4, 6, 8, 10. The 4 started 12 wks out from race day.
