Saturday in my crossfit class we were doing a little bit of kickboxing and I went to kick the bag with my left leg and felt something stretch next to my left knee. I can feel the pain/soreness in that small tendon (?) that runs behind your knee down the back of the leg. It was a little sore before this class and I am wondering if maybe it came from me running quite a bit last week. The pain went away and I went on my 11 mile run Sunday and it started to come back around mile 4 then went away until around the end. Now this morning I woke up and am walking like a duck, mostly because I am sore but if I bend my knee just right I get that jabbing pain. I tried looking it up some and it looks like it might be IT band syndrome? I was just wondering what you guys think and what I should do about it? I've never really had pain after running before and I am so worried I have injured myself 2 weeks before my first half marathon.

I've hurt/inflamed (not sure of the right word) my IT band before. My pain runs from the side of my knee to my hip and gets very sore. I usually can foam roll a few times a day as well as stretching and that helps. I've been running more consistently and the pain/soreness seems to be alleviating which is nice. I used to get it during every run and it would linger for days.
Yeah its like the back/side? Kind of hard to explain. I think it is more the side of the knee but I can feel the pain running up towards my hip so that makes sense. It already feels better this afternoon after stretching some at my desk and resting.

Since you felt it happen during a particular movement (kicking your leg out a certain way), I think you more likely strained a ligament. Ice, rest, ibuprofen and see how it feels. If you can't walk, I wouldn't run (or kick things) for like 3 days.
Thanks everyone! I stretched it out a lot yesterday and walked a little last night and I seemed to have worked out whatever it was. The pain is completely gone today so I am going to try to do an easy 3 miles tonight
