I'm an Aunt of an 18 year old (born boy) that just recently came out as bi-sexual and transgender. He (now she) has a lot of family support in initial reactions but there are lots of questions and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any resources or books that might speak to how to best support her, grieving the boy, welcoming the girl, the processes she may opt for, etc etc.
She is open to questions but I think she is inundated at this point and I'd like to do some research on my own first just to understand it all better. That and well, she is still a teenager that loves to answer things with one word. LOL.
Has she been to a therapist? She will need to find a good one before starting hormone therapy. Be mindful of pronouns and name changes (if there is one).
The support of her family is the most important thing, so it's good that she has it.
Thank you!!! She has been to a therapist and will continue with that. Not sure what her plan is for when she wants to start her process, as she is in post-secondary school right now.
