I've never seen scorpions in Florida either. But I'd never heard of snakes coming up through the plumbing during a storm and someone else mention that here the other day. I also never knew venomous spiders were such a problem until recently. I am a lifelong Floridian but apparently I missed a lot growing up.

Not necessarily true. It rains all the time on the westside of the state. The eastside of the state gets about 7 inches of rain a year (it's a half desert.)
