I used to use Downy fabric softener (the liquid) on all my clothes until I had read that is bad for athletic gear (it isn't good for quick-dry fabric).
I no longer use Downy, but have been using Downy Unstopables for my regular cotton load (t-shirts, DH's boxers, socks, etc).
Does anyone know if I can use Downy Unstopables for athletic/quick-dry fabric material?
You should not use ANY fabric softener on athletic clothes. It kills the wicking properties. If your clothes stink and you want them to smell fresh, put 1/4 cup of vinegar in the wash. You can also try a sports specific wash like Win or Tide Sport.

I just love how Downy Unstopables smell, but if it's going to ruin our towels (reduces absorbency) and ahtletic apparel (reduces wicking properties), I no longer want to use it. I was hoping the Downy Unstopables would be just that- a "scent booster"- and not necessarily a fabric softener....

Those Unstoppables are so strongly scented and make your clothes smell for a long time so they have to be coating or imbedding something into the clothes to keep them scented, right?
