mail slot catcher

we have a mail slot in our front door.  one of our dogs likes to occasionally shred some of the mail.  I'm trying to find am attractive way to catch the mail when it comes through the door.  does anyone have any suggestions?  everything I'm finding is rather ugly.

I've never seen anything attractive. I'd just get a mailbox to hang somewhere on the exterior of the house instead.

we had a dog that would destroy the mail if it came in through a mailslot. my parents ended up just using an outside mailbox.

I think mail catchers fall under the same category as light switches, outlets and vent covers.....they are utilitarian and there is only so much that one can do with them.

IMO, the least offensive ones are the ones that don't try too hard to be special. Keep it simple, and paint it the same color as the door, and no one will give it a second thought.

Even if you do get a basket, the dogs could likely fish mail out and trash it. Plus it might not always fall into the basket.

Ours is in our garage door so looks weren't as much of a concern for us, but we got one of these. We had a hole cut in the back, mounted it to the inside of the door over the mail slot, and stuck a magnet on the flap so it stays closed when the garage door is open. It works great!

There are nicer looking ones. What about something like these?


Those are just from the Lowe's website...I'm sure there are even nicer ones to be found out there.

The advantage to having the slot in the door is that it is harder for someone to steal your mail.
