I ran 5 miles on Tuesday and had some irritating groin pain. I saw my massage therapist last night and she worked on the area but she thinks it may be a stress fracture because I have pain on the bone.
I am going to see my sports med doctor today so I am hoping to get some xrays. I'm already thinking it's not going to be a good diagnosis because I have pain even when I'm standing and walking.
I'm so upset - this came out of the blue and I'm distraught over the possibility of giving up running for an extended peiod of time.
No offense to the MT, but I definitely would not panic until speaking to the sport's med doc. There are so many things it could be. Stay calm and don't jump to worse case scenario. Fingers crossed for some good news! Let us know what happens.

Sometimes when I have areas of my back/neck that have been tight or spasming for a long time I will get referred pain when you press on certain bones. Like if you press on my vertebra they feel like they are bruised. It's incredibly painful, but it's the connective tissue and not the bones. Fingers crossed it's something similar for you. It seems too coincidental that the pain was immediately after the massage for it not to be soft tissue related. Good luck!

Agree with this. Stress fractures usually take some time to develop and don't just all of a sudden happen. It could be tendinitis, you pelvis could be out of alignment, a whole host of things. I get groin pain when my SI joint gets out of alignment. It can happen from just stepping weird off a curb. Try not to stress too much!

Mine does too! Talk about things transferring pain to other places. I went to PT a couple of years ago for what, at the time, felt like a very high up hamstring pull. The SI joint pain came after the hamstring pain. At times in was in my outer hip, then it moved to my groin & pelvic bone area. Never once was it the actual bone. Once we fixed the the alignment & strengthened my hips, all pain went away. The exercises they gave me continue to be a life saver whenever pain pops up in any of those places. It's so crazy how everything connects.
Just got back from doctor - X Ray was clear but he said that stress fractures usually don't show up on x rays. I opted to go for the MRI but my crappy insurance has to pre approve it before I can schedule it. Hopefully that will happen sooner than later.
Doctor also told me to go and run an easy 2 miles to see how I feel tomorrow. I'm nervous because I am still getting some pain when I walk. DOc said it may just be tendonitis. I'm so hoping that it is.
Thank you for all the supportive posts - you all rock!! I feel lucky everyday to have such a supportive board of ladies to come to with my complaints and my accomplishments. Thank you again!!!

Once I get the MRI - I'll report back on this,
This is a positive start! Is the pain kind of back groin/pelvic/sit bone area?

yes - it is definitely on the sit bone area - so frustrating!! My doc did not say to rest. He told I could run today if I felt up to it but since it's still a little painful to walk, I'm taking today completely off and will try a nice, slow 2 mile run tomorrow. He said to ice the area 3-4 times a day and to take some Advil.
I'm now camped on the couch sitting on an ice pack.

I've had that same type of pain. I'm not sure the exact cause, but it tends to be related to other alignment issues on that side of my body. Its definitely a weird feeling. I'm no anatomy expert, but there are so many tendons and connective tissue and different things in that area, maybe you've just inflamed something that connects to, or runs over that bone. Fingers crossed that some icing and a slightly scaled back running plan does the trick!

Thank you!! I was really tight in both my inner and outer thigh and hip areas so I'm hoping it is just some tendonitis.
