I have never colored my hair in my life. Not necessarily proud of that, but just so you know what I'm dealing with here. I have a decent amount of gross gray hairs that are popping up all over, but not so much that they're THAT noticeable. But, they're all crimped looking and short and sometimes 1 or 2 will be extremely noticeable and look terrible, just kinda sticking up from my head, or visible within a ponytail. So how do I hide them? Do I have to start coloring my hair at a salon or can I just buy something to touch up these ugly pop-up grays? Or go with what I really want to do which is pluck them all out, lol. Don't worry, I won't do that. Help!

Just be aware, your hair is going to start falling out by the handful pretty soon. Mine started about 3 months post partum both times. It is just now slowing down and Hudson is 5 months old. I've known people whose hair has grown in differently than before.
Now, since you have virgin hair, I would go to a salon. I never trust box dye, but that's just me.
I have had grays since I was 21. I switch it up, sometimes I go to the salon if I want something different. If I'm just covering the grays (which I have to do every 4 weeks!! craziness I tell you) I use box dye. If I went to the salon every time I needed to cover my grays I would be broke!

Wow, that's crazy, I wonder if my hair will really fall out? I have a lot of hair! I better wait over the next months and see what happens. Then I'll get it fixed at the salon before we travel later this year to see family. Maybe I'll get a whole new look
Yea you will lose hair. Did you notice not losing the normal amount when you were pregnant? That comes out after. I'm def clogging up my drain these days. It started much later after my first pregnancy.

I had big bald spots on either side of my forehead. I would wait but I would go to a salon the first time and ask the name of the color they use (light ash brown, for example) that will make it much easier to pick a box color that will match. Also don't buy the cheapest box. I don't box color anymore so I don't have a rec for youvbut they are not created equal.
I'm looking back at this thread and where the heck is my reply about how much I pay for color? I swear I posted it. Geez. Well let's try again... At Aveda it depends on what level your stylist is. Pre kids I saw a level 8 and got a cut and highlight/lowlight and paid about $150 before tip. Now I go twice a year and see a level 2, 3 or 4ish. I get a cut and full color and pay around $80. That's a guess. I buy a phomollient refill and tip generously and spend close to $150. It's worth it. I love how my hair feels when I leave there, and the head massage is to die for.
