Either Joel has been fed up and harboring resentment for years (which, hello, not Julia's fault if he didn't raise these issues) or he's potentially cheating himself.
Otherwise, his actions just do not make sense.
I get he is angry - especially about the Ed situation and the fact that Julia was texting him, initially chose not to disclose the kiss, and didn't immediately pull away, but this is one kiss. Is he really going to throw away his marriage and break up a family for ONE kiss?
Julia had to put up with the SAHM making the moves on Joel (he shut it down, but he, too, saw it coming) and she didn't put the kibosh on Sydney hanging out with SAHM's daughter. She chalked it up to a one-time thing and trusted Joel to do the right thing and didn't want to hurt the kids involved by making a huge fuss out of basically nothing.
When Sarah is being the voice of reason (which, about time and I could LIKE this Sarah), you know Joel is being an ass about this.

I agree, I feel like he's been unhappy and he's using this as an opportunity to get out, with less fault & guilt.

And can I just say I love me some John Corbett?
Finally caught up! ITA agree with you, especially the bolded. Joel was in a very similar situation at the beginning of the show. Julia seems to be a little more caught up in Ed than Joel was with Raquel (or whatever her name was) but they are very similar and I think he's totally overreacting.
I also agree with pugz that I don't feel like I know the characters anymore. Camille is a totally different person. She used to be so involved with her family, and now she wants to leave it all behind and travel through Europe, not caring what she's missing. I get wanting to see the world, but the total lack of emotional attachment to anything is unlike her.
I never really loved Joel and I think that now he's showing his true colors (he's jealous of Julia). If he continues to act like this, good riddance for Julia.
