I ran my first 20 miler today, and average pace was 8:36. That is 13 seconds slower than gmp and my gmp is ambitious to say the least. I am on cloud 9 right now.
I ran the furthest I've ever run on Sunday (17mi)! It didn't feel great though until about mile 6. I also want to AW my sister who has come such a long way from someone who HATED running to getting up at 5am to run and running her first half with me tomorrow! !
I almost always hate my runs until I am about halfway through then something kicks in. Congrats to your sister on running her first half! p.s. how do you get the motivation to get up so early? The thought of getting up that early and getting my runs out of the way sound fantastic but I feel like I would be a slug the rest of the day.
The motivation comes from the fact that I wouldn't have time to do it at night. I work crazy hours and volunteer often in the evenings, so if I want the run to get done- it's happening in the morning. It's really just become a habit. However, this ridiculously cold (for Georgia) weather we are having lately is making it REALLY hard to get out of bed!
Glad to know it's not just me that feels like poo at the start of my run. It's really been a flip usually I settle in after a mile or 2 but lately my legs/body have just felt WIPED. I guess my illness, and apparently low thyroid levels weren't helping!

Oh okay! I work full time and have classes on Monday and Wednesday evenings so those are my break nights. I have been running in the evenings on Tuesday and Thursdays and we do our long runs on Sunday afternoons. No kidding about the cold. I am in North Florida and I am not liking this! From what I understand it is going to get even colder. I decided to do the treadmill last night even though I hate it.
Not an AW exactly, but my last run before the race is done! I did 2m at the slow end of my easy pace range and it felt soooooo sloooooowww. I'm hoping that means I have tapered successfully.
I'm traveling for work for 2 weeks and I'm really proud if the food choices I've made all week. I loaded up on fruits, veggies, and salad fixings from the grocery store and have been preparing stuff in my hotel room.
Ugh, I've been feeling like a bloated slug lately (even training 12 hrs a week. wtf?!) Buuuut I go from masters til 8:30 PM to an hour run at 5 AM the next day and the fact that I still hit my intervals makes me feel like I'm at least doing something right...
I was determined to get a run in today but stupid me didn't check out the weather. I thought it would be in the upper 20s. My limit for running outside is mid-20s. Turns out it was really 15. I am so happy I didn't quit and and now I know it's really not the bad. I'm still defrosting though.
I've never really thought of myself as a runner. I'm not that good, not as consistent as I should be BUT, this marathon training has me running consistently, running faster than my gmp ( I guess I should change it??)and I'm feeling great after a post-Ironman slump.
I swear though, you fast ladies must live in the flats! Every where I turn there is a hill, which bums me out because even though I'm hitting my average pace, it's still so damn slow!
