I have been training for my first half and am about 8 weeks out. Unfortunately I am unable to go to the intended race, and am instead doing one 4 weeks later. Any suggestions on how to adjust my training schedule to include 4 extra weeks? I don't want to start over, and I feel like I have been training forever already, but I also don't want to over-train (if that is possible). Thanks!
I would step back now and then ramp back up the long run so that you do your longest run and still have a taper. If you scale back for a couple weeks I don't think you'll lose that much fitness but it will give you a mental break. I would still try and do a longish run once a week but those shorter ones you could scale back or replace with other forms of cardio
I'm not sure how many miles you are currently doing, but I'd add in an easy week or two, with long runs along the lines of 6,8,6,8 adjusting for your current mileage.
