It's been a week and a few days, and i know my body is still recovering. I haven't run at all yet. So I have a spot on the top of my foot that is a bit swollen, painful, but not bruised. I can't tell if it's the tendons on top of my foot that are swollen or if it's my bone. I kind of think (and am hoping like hell) it's a tendon issue and today i starting treating it like one. Aside from pushing on it the pain is only there when i flex my toes up and i do feel a bit of a stretch when i point them down. The pain is exactly where the navicular bone is though...
So my question is how long do i wait to go to the doctor? I feel like 1 week out for my first time it's still normal for issues? On the other hand, if it's the dreaded stress fracture i'd rather get things going.

I was still pretty beaten up for a couple of weeks after my marathon last year, with lots of aches and pains. So it very well could be something that will go away on its own, with rest. But, I'd probably see a doctor sooner than later, just to be sure!
Eh, I'd be inclined to wait at least another week or so, personally. A marathon is pretty hard on your body and recovery time is going to vary, especially for your first one. Have you tried to run at all, like even a slow jog? How did it feel?

I haven't tried yet because I wanted to give my body lots of time. I was thinking I'd try this weekend.
I'd go now, I ran a four mile race four days after my first (and only) marathon.
The thing is, three-four days after I felt really good. I didn't run because everyone told me not to. It's worse now. Or maybe I notice now that everything else has calmed down?
I definitely think that it's normal for your body to still be recovering. I might wait another week. The first thing I was going to ask was if it hurts when you flex your foot. I've had some top of foot tendon issue since my November half, & it was swollen at first as well. When I flex, it's stabbing, but luckily it doesn't bother me much when running. It hasn't had a chance to go away because I've been marathon training.
If it gets worse, or still feels just as bad after another week of rest , I'd go see a Dr.

I'm sorry you've been having pain, but you just gave me so much hope. It's definitely caused by the flexing. Of course I keep pushing on it and flexing to figure it out which is probably making it so much worse. I think I'll try babying the tendons and a gentle jog in a few days to see how it does.
LOL! I do the same thing with the poking & prodding. I'm hoping that a lightened running schedule after this race, will help it go away. It's just felt like I've had a mild sprain for the past couple of months. Hope you feel back to 100% soon!

Yeah, I think that the way it feels when you run will tell you a lot. Hope it starts feeling better soon though!

Clearly I didn't answer your question:) I'd try a recovery run and then go see a doctor. $25 for a co-pay would be worth it to me.
