Like I'm 2! I use MFP to track my food and calories. I wear a Polar HRM to record my calories burned during workouts. I really want to try a fitbit to see how many steps I take and I think I'd really like the silent alarm. I'm confused about syncing it with MFP.
Will it record my normal steps to MFP thus counting it as exercise and increasing my alloted calories? I eat all my calories plus added exercise calories. I currently don't count my everyday walking to and from my car, walking around the office etc as exercise though. I wouldn't want everday activities like that to increase my calories. So would it be best to not sync it with MFP?
Yes, Fitbit does count your normal walking steps in with your calories and adjusts it in MFP. I wouldn't sync it if you don't want to count it as exercise in MFP.
It does count the everyday activities as extra calories, so agreed that you may not want to sync it if you don't want those additional calories to show in MFP.
I eat all of my exercise calories that I log via HRM as well, but I also eat back some/all of my extra Fitbit calories since I don't use my HRM for the nightly walks with the dog and that logs about 100-200 calories per day.
I set my MFP activity level to "sedentary", then if fitbit thinks my activity that day rises above sedentary (HA!) then it gives me a few extra calories. You can also set it to where it will deduct calories from your allotment in MFP if you are below the activity level, but I don't have it do that because my floor is 1200.
If you log activity in MFP, it asks for a time and it offsets calories that fitbit thinks you burned during that time. So for example, you leave your fitbit on for a run and it counts steps, but it's calorie burn calc for running sucks. So you override that be entering 30 minutes of running @ x pace @ 7:00pm or something into MFP under cardio.
I wear the One on the center of my bra and nobody knows I'm wearing it.
Ditto this. I love the One. My DH has the Flex and likes it, but wearing that AND a watch would drive me crazy. Plus, the One has silent alarms and other fun stuff.
