I started a new job about two weeks ago at a used car dealership. So far I've got zero training, I come here and I sit from 8 a.m to 6 p.m and try and gather as much from my co-workers actions as I can. My boss keeps telling me I need to be out and handing out my business cards and bringing business from the A.F. He want's me gone all the time. I can not sell a car if I'm not on the lot and if I'm not being trained. So today I go out on the lot and greet a few people and each time my boss comes running up and sends a co-worker to take the deal and sends me inside.. We work on commission so if I don't sell a car, I don't get paid. I can't sell a car if I can't talk to people.. I'm just really really frustrated..
What a classy guy. I would be looking for a new job again. It seems you were only hired to get all of your AF friends to come buy a car from him. I hate it when people target the Military like that. Ugh.
Yes, new job. He seems shitty. You can't solicit on base so I'm not sure why he thinks you'd bring in AF customers.
This. It sounds like you were hired with expectations (soliciting customers on base) that you can't meet.
It might be worth letting your boss know that doing so can cause you to lose base access. (I doubt that would actually happen, but it would make it clear to him that it's not something you can, or will, do.)
And, I would call him out on pulling your customers over to other salespeople. Not appropriate in a commission based job.

Thanks everyone! I have been looking for another job but I'm getting kind of pessimistic. Being white and getting a job on Guam are apparently not a good mix lol. I've had a bunch of talks with my boss about no soliciting on base and he's just doesn't seem to care. Looks like I'll be spending my time looking for something slightly more stable.
