I hope no one minds that pick this up for a week or two...since I'll be obsessing about marathons for the next few weeks, figured I'd pick up the slack and get us started this week.

What are you training for? When? Austin 2/16
Any highlights from last week? Issues or vents? Finished my last 20 miler, yahoo!
Since I'm officially in the taper, tell me about yours. Do you you look forward to the taper and reduced mileage, or dread the taper crazies? This time around I couldn't get to the taper fast enough. I think racing last weekend messed with my head. Making my goal at that half felt like the finish line, so motivating for this last week was really hard.
And a bonus question, what are the hardest miles for you in the race, beginning, middle or end? How do you fight through them, any tricks? I'm kind of psyching myself out right now, feeling like they're all hard. So I'll look forward to your answers on how you fight through them!
Any highlights from last week? Issues or vents? It was a recovery week for me, all but 5 miles were on the TM. So depressing, lol. I'm not worried about all the TM running affecting my marathon, but am slightly concerned about my half in 2 weeks.
Since I'm officially in the taper, tell me about yours. Do you you look forward to the taper and reduced mileage, or dread the taper crazies? Lucky you! Enjoy I love the taper. I'm usually ready for a break by then. My main challenge is not eating like I got used to during the height of training.
And a bonus question, what are the hardest miles for you in the race, beginning, middle or end? How do you fight through them, any tricks? 16-22 are usually the hardest for me, b/c I am already starting to get tired and the end seems so far away. I try to focus more on my surroundings, and turn up the music. I will replay some of my favorite songs. Take a gu with caffeine.

Bonus question: Ditto Cinco. I usually start to get a little anxious/worried around 17 or 18. That's when my body really starts to feel the weight of what I'm doing, and there is still a lot of race left. If I can make it to 23, I'm OK, but those 5-6 miles beforehand are kind of a no mans land for me. I try my best to get out of my own head & distract myself. I also usually take my avg pace, and then take it mile by mile. So if my pace is 8:10, I'd say OK, just keep those legs moving, and make this mile an 8:10. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Tons of small goals during that section of the race.

Any highlights from last week? Issues or vents? I'm in a bit of a funk with my running lately. I got my early birthday present, a new Garmin 110, this week so I'm hoping this helps get me out of my slump.

I love taper week, but it feels weird to run such low mileage after all those weeks up lots of mileage. Last time, I spent more time obsessing about the weather for race day than I did running. lol
And a bonus question, what are the hardest miles for you in the race, beginning, middle or end? How do you fight through them, any tricks? Umm with my recent marathon, mile 22 was when I hit my wall. Between 22-24, was probably the worst section of my race. I didn't really use any tricks, I just kept plodding forward. When I got to mile 24, I found out I was in position to finish under my goal time and that boosted my spirits from there til the end.

Any highlights from last week? Issues or vents? I had a good week aside from wicked cold & blizzard yesterday. I'm still in lower mileage, but my 9 miles on the TM Saturday gave me confidence I can survive the treadmill for more than an hour.

I am busy & active in my job, so I welcome the extra free time. I've also never done super high mileage (like max in low 40's) so that might make a difference. This time I hope to peak higher though.
And a bonus question, what are the hardest miles for you in the race, beginning, middle or end? How do you fight through them, any tricks? Usually middle of the second 1/2. Miles 17.18.19.20.21, it feels like so much is still left. By 24 usually I'm feeling better. Like I really am ALMOST there.

Any highlights from last week? Issues or vents? ZOMG I RAN 20 MILES!!! I still can't honestly believe it. I felt really good, except, yes this is TMI. The butt chafe. It was 15 degrees when I started and a windchill of 3 so I had 3 pairs of pants on. I guess I need to invest in REAL running undies. I didn't even know butt chafe could happen....

And a bonus question, what are the hardest miles for you in the race, beginning, middle or end? How do you fight through them, any tricks? I find that my hardest miles are 3-4 and 14-15. So far.
Vents - it's cold!!! Friday's 20 miler ended up being 15 miles split up. I am going to try to do a 20 miler this Friday and then I have a 22 miler next week before my taper begins.
I am looking forward to my taper right now because this week and next are high mileage weeks and I am very nervous about running all those miles along with dealing with the rest of my daily life.
Those middle miles always get to me no matter what the race is. This is my first marathon but I am guessing miles 16-22 are going to be brutal.

Any highlights from last week? Issues or vents? Vents??? Yes!! -I'm slow -I hate being slow - dh is training for this too, he'll go out and knock out 14, no big deal. Damn him. -I'm slow - I'd rather train for another ironman!

And a bonus question, what are the hardest miles for you in the race, beginning, middle or end? How do you fight through them, any tricks? End! I tell myself, it's only 3 more miles (for example) it's nothing compared to saying, only 130 more miles to go!!

Any highlights from last week? Issues or vents? My hips, specifically the right one, can get with the program or go to hell. (Ha.) I've had annoying stiffness/achiness in my hips when I ran. I skipped 21 miles of running last week. GRRRR. I hate skipping runs. But thankfully, more stretching, foam rolling, icing, and biofreeze have made a difference, and it seems to be sorting itself out. I did 3 miles this morning. It wasn't the greatest run, but my hips seem to be improving. I haven't thrown in the towel for this training cycle, but I also haven't yet registered.

Since I'm in school, I actually enjoy the taper because I have less on my plate. I do get a little crazy, but the second time was better than the first, so hopefully this taper (assuming I get there) will be better.

I'd say miles 13-18 are the hardest mentally, because I get bored. After that, I know that my brain can get my body through the last miles, even if those miles are hardest on my body. As for fighting them, I just get really pissed off, and that seems to work well.
