...anywhere in the US, where would it be and why? H and I are toying with the idea of moving out-of-state a few years from now. He's voting for Oregon, I'm leaning towards Colorado. We both love the FL weather but we're missing the scenery. We have both lived in CA in the past (before we met) and we liked how you can drive 2 hours and you're at the mountains...or the beach. We would like to spend more time outdoors as a family but we don't/can't really do it here coz of the mosquitoes. So where would you go?
Hands down, Hilo Hawaii. I have a good friend from high school who just moved there with her husband and 2 kids and her pictures and videos of all their adventures are amazing. Another couple friend from here is koving there soon. They just got their dogs shots and now they have to wait 120 days and then they're off. She's from there and her family is there. So I'd already have a network. That's not realistic though, so if we're talking continental US I'd like Fort Collins or Knoxville.
I can't offer any advice for what you're looking for, as I would probably head in the exact opposite direction. I have pretty much made it my life's goal to get back to New York City some way, some how. I loved it so much for our 4.5 years there, frankly I can't really picture ever loving any other place nearly as much. (My bank account is praying that will change, because eesh. NYC rent is not exactly family-friendly.)
I love California for the reasons you listed. Being able to be at the beach OR the mountains within a short drive, would be awesome...although it's freaking expensive to live there. In reality if we moved anywhere it would probably be to TX where my family is so that Mia can grow up with her oodles of cousins!
