I prefer to order online and try them on at home. The lighting in most stores, especially Nordstrom, sucks when trying on swimsuits! At least, that's what I tell myself...
I feel this way about clothes shopping in general. Nothing ever fits. I have no ass and not much boobs so swim suits almost never fit. Even ordering online sucks for me because I get all excited about something and find that they don't fit so I have to spend time mailing it back. Luckily they still make shoes that fit my feet.
I just got back from the same depressing event, except I told myself I wasn't allowed to leave without getting something since we're going to the beach this weekend. I bought two Lands End suits from Sears that were 60% off. At least I didn't spend a lot to look like crap.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!
I disagree. Shoe shopping when you were a 10.5-11 is worse. At least when my size 14-16 flabby self puts on a suit, I know it's in large part my fault it's not so pretty and I can do something to fix it. Or throw on a cover up. Nothing I can do to change my shoe size, so few stores carry it and designers refuse to properly design a non-plain shoe that is scaled correctly to the larger sizes. Stretching what's cute in a 5 doesn't work.

Same advice. Order a bunch from zappos, who carries a large selection of 10 and up shoes and has a great return policy. Or go to Nine West, which carries up to a 12 in store. Try on at home and return what you don't like or what doesn't fit.
If it were 15 years ago, I'd agree with you, but the Internet has fixed our shoe problem.
Amen, sister. I need to replace my two suits that are like 4 years old and I forgot how awful bathing suit shopping is. 2 hrs at Macy's and nothing! Sigh, I wish I had just bought 10 of the one suit I loved.
Just an FYI that Nordstrom has a ton of great one-piece suits that are stylish and very flattering. I was pleasantly surprised by the suits I ordered from Nordstrom. They even have some sexy but flattering one-piece suits.
I also discovered that paying a little extra for a good bathing suit is TOTALLY worth it. You can tell the difference just in quality - the suits aren't going to fall apart after one season, and also in the way they fit.
I lost my favorite bikini last year, but I can't bring myself to go swimsuit shopping again. It's a lousy experience for just about everyone - there's that weird liner in the bottom of the suit that makes you think of all the other folks who ave tried it on. Then the flourescent lighting, which makes palefolks like myself look like blue people from Kentucky. Finally, there's the awkwardness of standing in a carpeted dressing room in a shopping mall - god forbid you step out to use the 3-way full length mirror.
Yeah when the DD sized underwire bathing suit tops gave me quadruple boob, I pretty much gave up. Lol. I might have to go with one of those Duggar approved suits this year.
