Not only are we going to wind up with a gigantic electric bill from running our AC round the clock, we also bought $45 passes to Summerfest that are totally going to waste. They pay for themselves if you go 3 times. We've only been once, and with the heat the way it's been, I think we might go one more time.
This is just out of control. On Tuesday night, we actually had a heat index 10 degrees hotter than where my parents live in Texas because of the effing humidity. UGGGGGGH. This is by far the worst summer I've had in over a decade.
It's miserable. I think I had to have been a kid the last time we had weather like this because I can't remember it. We were sitting outside staking our place for fireworks last night at 7 and the heat index was 101! Tomorrow they are saying 102 degrees and then 103 on Saturday for a high. A high! Ugh
We've lost the battle of trying to keep the bedrooms cool, so we're camping out in the living room. I've never been so glad that we ditched a real guest bed for an air mattress!

tomorrow's heat index is supposed to be 110F. I have a (free!) hair appointment that is just outside of walking distance, and I am seriously considering paying for a cab. the train is a quick 10 min ride (and $5 roundtrip instead of $18), but the trains are SO disgustingly sweaty/humid/packed that I don't think I can do it.

Ugh, it is horrible I just came home at 530pm and it was 106! Poor DS was flushed bright red and drenched in sweat. Someone needs to make air conditioned car seats.

I would totally cab it. I'm taking a cab from a meeting on Tuesday to my wax appointment even though it's within walking distance.
Are the trains in Chicago not airconditioned? Summer is the only time I like the subway here because it's so cool and refreshing.
I guess the only upside is that the public library is open longer than normal today because it's a designated "cool spot," so I don't have to wait for the weekend to get a new library card and check out some books. It's barely over a mile away, but I will definitely be driving.

supposedly!
but I took the red line two days ago, and it was hotter in the train than it was outside (and I think it was 100F then?). the train was jam packed - no standing room. I don't know if the A/C was broken or if it just couldn't keep up with the extreme temps and overcrowded cars.
I just told my mom today that I am hoping my electric bill will be $100 for July because of the heat, I really don't want it to be more then $120. I also cook way less and eat out more because I don't want any excess heat in my apartment.
ETA because I am having issues typing my thoughts lately.
I'm pretty sure we've had at least 10 days in a row here that have been over 100 degrees. We're looking at 105 for the next two days. I'm not looking forward to our electric bill.
we've had a really mild summer so far, but it's coming. this weekend is supposed to be near 100F and i have never been so thankful to live in a basement apartment.

You need remote start. It's been over 100 for like 10 days here, and my remote start has gotten more of a workout lately than it does in the winter!
I know what you mean. Our electric and water bills were both high last month since it has been so hot and dry, and I dread the electric bill this month since it has been much hotter than last.
We were in northern WI for the last 5 days and it was just miserable. I bought a fishing license so that I could participate in the family fishing festivities (I don't normally fish so I usually am bored) and we barely even could do any fishing since it was so hot. We spent most of the weekend indoors. Out of state licenses are not MM, especially if they aren't hardly used.
I just looked at mine and was shocked that it wasn't more. $125, and the cycle just ended. Our entire apartment is electric, so I guess that really isn't too bad.

Holy crap! I think we've only had three 100-degree days in Atlanta this year (last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Our electricity has been out because of the storm. We weren't planning on traveling for the 4th of July, but I couldn't take the heat anymore. We stayed with family, but we still managed to spend a lot on eating out and stuff. We did skip the local festival and saved some money there.
It's hotter at our home in Indiana than it is where DH's family lives in the deep south. A few months ago they asked us to come down this summer and we said no, because it's just so hot and humid there during the summer, but their weather sounds better than ours now!
I know. We have 2 window air conditions (1 in LR and one in our bedroom) and one or the other has been running around the clock for almost 2 weeks now. Our electric is going to blow our budget to hell.
