Loved it! I totally cried during the scene where she was outside talking to Max. Maybe it was just pregnancy hormones, but I was pretty impressed that they made me cry over the death of a character I never met.
I loved all of the throwbacks- especially the naked man one.
I really, really like the mother. And I'm glad that everyone is at the inn now- I was so done with the Marshall road trip plot line.
Why did they name the ep "How Your Mother Met Me" when they didn't meet, though?!
Good point! I didn't think about that.
I guess it was just supposed to get her up to the point in her life where she's just about to meet Ted? I thought the background info was cool but some of it was lacking ... like, what does she do for a living?
On another note, is anyone following the online chatter that's speculating that The Mother is dead by 2030 and that's why Ted is telling his kids this story? I hope not!
@mrswindycity I like The Mother and did think it was a good episode. I am a bit annoyed that they are making her SO "perfect" for Ted. I mean, they don't have to have every single thing in common, you know?
Ugh, yes, I didn't like that either. It's natural that they'd share some interests, but making her a carbon copy of Ted - down to the calligraphy and coin collection - is no fun.

I'm also with you ladies in that it's kind of weird to me that they are painting the Mother out to be literally, Ted's female counterpart. However, I come from a POV where my DH and I are an "opposites attract" kind of couple.
I guess it was called "How your Mother Met Me" because she is at least aware of Ted's presence, while he is still (more or less) oblivious to the fact that his "perfect woman" is still out there. She knows that her roommate's ex-boyfriend could be a good match for her....which may be why she told Louis "no."

Eh, I didn't get that vibe from this episode. Not that she shot down Louis because Ted's in the back of her mind, anyway. She wasn't in love with Louis from pretty much the beginning of their relationship.
It's definitely interesting that she's aware of Ted, though, and that he's totally unaware of who she is ... he knows Cindy's old roommate might be a good match for him but he doesn't know who she actually is. She remembers from the econ class that he's cute, he told a funny joke about shellfish, and she found out from Cindy that he admired all of her things in the apartment.
I don't think Ted's a blip on her radar when she gets to the wedding weekend, mainly because she has no idea that he's there just yet. She'll realize it's him once the wedding starts and she sees that he's the Best Man whom she sent the drink to since he punched out that obnoxious Darren guy she hated. And then she'll remember that he was the cute econ professor that Cindy dated. I don't think she dumped Louis for him at all, but I think she's interested enough in him that she may strike up a conversation with him when they are on the train platform together at the end of the series.

I haven't really watched this season but I did watch this episode with DH over the weekend. I liked it & I really like the mother. They should have aired this episode about 2 seasons ago, I would have liked to see them, get engaged, plan their wedding, etc. I think they could have even done a season or two of marriage/kids/etc. IMO the story isn't over when they finally meet, but that seems to be what the writers/creators think since they strung us along for so ages.

This has been the running conspiracy for sometime, and I'm really not sure what to believe. I think it would be a pretty sad ending for a sitcom, if that was the case. According to TV Line, we will find out why he decided to tell his kids the story before the series ends.
