The Cook Islands were wonderful. We had an amazing time, and they are beautiful islands, the people are friendly & fun. Lots of Kiwis there, seems like it is their go to beach destination.
I will say I feel like French Polynesia in general is a little more beautiful and more exotic feeling, although it's true that is it a lot more expensive. The Cooks are a good cheaper alternative but IMO there is just something super special about French Polynesia.

Kiwis are soo friendly! Another really cool thing about Rarotonga is renting a scooter. We rented one and rode it all around the island. We didn't do this in French Polynesia so I don't even know if you can, but seriously, this was huge! It was one of our favorite things about the vacation. The interior of the island is beautiful and we went off the beaten track and down little roads into the interior where many of the locals live. It was so much fun. I highly recommend it!

Tempting!
BTW, I've been meaning to ask about your China time. I know you went, and you got to go to DLI, too, right? What program were you guys in? You can PM me or tell me to piss off. H has looked into a few different programs, but his career field almost never approves anyone to even apply for them.
