Did a 16.4 miler today and got my second best half marathon time, only missed a PR by 40 seconds! Also, as I was point to point rather than a loop, I wasn't sure whether I was going to end up at a similar elevation. Turns out, I ran uphill almost the entire way!!
The only bad thing was I missed catching a train home and had to phone my very hungover husband to come get me. And I'm recovering from a cold, so I shivered a little waiting for him.
Got a 20k race next weekend, but weekend after I'm going to get the train out and run home. I feel a PR coming on!
Do you think that mentally it is better to have done a 26.2 distance in training before the official marathon. A friend in real life recommended it as a strategy.
Personally I didn't do more than 18 before my first marathon. That wasn't the plan but I was injuried and missed my 20 miler. I did just fine during the marathon. I counted on race day adrenaline to carry me through.
I doubt I will ever actually run 26.2 in training for a marathon. I wouldn't want to burn myself out before the race and I've heard it isn't the greatest idea either. Your body needs time to heal after a run like that.

No, not at all, especially not for your first, but not even if it's your 10th. A few 20s, maybe a 22, that's all you need. Your weekly mileage would have to be pretty high to think you could recover reasonably well from a 26.2 training run in time for the race. There's a reason that training plans don't take you that far.

noooooo....i did 18 before my first adn I was ok. I am in training mode for my second right now and plan on doing 18 or 20 as my longest
